Man Angry Over Child Deaths Videos Self in Hot Car to Prove a Point

A North Carolina man is hot about children dying in hot cars, and has taken to the internet to try to make a difference.

Multiple news outlets, including USA Today, identified the man as Terry Williams. Williams, of Raleigh, recently videotaped himself inside his vehicle on a day when it was about 90 degrees outside the car. Temperatures inside a closed car can quickly rise as much as 20 degrees.

"I'm sitting in the car with the windows rolled up cause I want to know how it feels to be left in the car, strapped in a car seat with the windows up, and the doors probably locked,'' Williams says on the video. "I would never leave my kids in the car like this, man."

The video doesn't say how long Williams sat in the car, but he was sweating profusely when he made the tape. "I can barely breathe out here,'' he said.

Tuscaloosa native Justin Ross Harris is charged with murder in the death of his 22-month-old son, Cooper, who died in Georgia on June 18. Just this week, in Connecticut, a 15-month-old boy died after his father forgot the child was in the car. At least 16 children have died from heat stroke nationwide this year; 44 in 2013.

"We got through this every year, every year, year after year after year,'' Williams said in his video. "There will always be some fool who wants to leave their kid in the backseat of the car and forget all about them. "

"This is sad man,'' Williams said. "Don't be the next fool on the damn news talking about you left your kids in the back seat."

He had a message for viewers: "Share this message,'' he said.

Others are following Williams' lead and posting their own hot-car videos on his Facebook page.

If I saw a child left unattended in a car, I would call the cops. I don’t consider myself a busybody, but there are some things that are just plain wrong.

My children rode in the front seat with me and did just fine. We have all these nanny rules now which require a child to be in the backseat. Of course we didn’t have airbags back then either or seat belts or a whole lot of other government mandated stuff. Easier to attend to children’s needs when they are close and absent minded parents are less likely to forget they have them, particularly when a child is asleep.

Good points all. I call these “death by government”.

I don’t believe that any of those ‘parents’ forgot their children.

Car seats are too big too not ignore or forget. I used to feel sympathy toward these parents but after driving in a car with a carseat I’ve come to the realization these deaths are on purpose. They aren’t prosecuted and one gets sympathy. The perfect crime.

Of course if you see a child in danger you have to get help. That’s not being a busybody.

And turning the car seat backwards? That’s gotta be the stupidest idea ever.

oh yeah, and do you know this one - put the baby to sleep on it’s back, with no covers nothing. They have these crazy little sleeping sacks you’re supposed to put them in.

Who could sleep like that? Not me. So, then you are taking the baby in the bed with you, which is much more dangerous. Or you’re not getting any sleep, which is also not safe.

Supposedly to prevent crib death which happens almost never.

And, in any event, this will only work until the baby learns to roll over. I can see no blanket, but I wonder about people who live in really cold places. Like Canada, etc.

We tuck them in, under sheets and blankets, in the winter, up here in Canada.
Just tuck the sheets in under the bottom and sides of the mattress before they can roll over. As they get more active they may kick the sheets/blankets off during the night, so if it's really cold we put them in warm pajamas like these:

Of course we do check on them every few days as well. ;-)

It seems we could have puppies next week, but it's summer, so I don't have to worry about warmth.

The small body mass of a child overheats much more rapidly than an adult.

They also make little sleeping bag things that go over the pajamas. We used those for the children who were born in the winter in Oklahoma.

I wish they came in preschooler sizes, because Kathleen gets cold in the winter even in the sleeper pajamas.

this type of incident happens many times every year by seemingly educated people and it never changes.

This ‘publicity stunt’ is on a par with a Hollywood ‘personality’ or Pol spending a night on a grate or in a homeless shelter.

The only thing these actions help is the IDIOTS own EGO that thinks he is accomplishing something.
