DOD: Russian troops mass near Ukraine border

The United States is not planning to give weapons or “lethal” assistance to Ukraine following Thursday’s downing of an airliner in its conflict zone, nor does it plan any major U.S. military response to the crisis, the Pentagon said Friday.

Press secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby repeated U.S. calls for a cease-fire in eastern Ukraine but said the “focus” of American assistance to Kiev will remain on non-lethal supplies and equipment, even though he acknowledged Ukraine has asked for both lethal and non-lethal help.

Barky wagged the dog again. All bark and no bite. He is a toothless liar and insidious coward.

Russian forces have been slowly gathering on the Ukrainian Frontier for two weeks now. Nice of Politico to finally start paying attention.

I wonder if this is what he meant about being "more flexible after the election"?

They are both Marxists tyrants. Why wouldn't they be working together?

Tough choice. Which liar do you believe the most? Which liar is damaging America the most? The one near, or the one afar? Both are manipulating narcissists.

The only thing that will be missing from this crash story is the truth because the parties are, all of them, not credible.

The last people we gave heavy weapons to decided to burn down half of Iraq and declare a Caliphate.

If Putin invades Ukraine or part of it, he will suffer somewhat, but this is not worth nuclear war over, as much as John McCain might demand it.

Notice how nobody is talking about the diseased invasion of America by El Salvador?

Spare us the hyperbole. Russia will not nuke us for supplying arms to the Ukrainians, any more than we nuked them for supplying arms to Chile (under Salvador Allende), Cuba, Nicaragua, North Korea or North Vietnam.

Russia supplied weapons to separatists. Turned out terribly. We supplied weapons to the Syrian rebels. Turned out terribly.

Perhaps time to keep our weapons to ourselves? Perhaps use them on the Central American countries currently launching an invasion of Texas?

Bad outcomes are part of life. We supplied weapons to the Brits. Twice. That turned out pretty well. We supplied weapons to the Afghans. They killed 13K Russians and helped bring the Cold War to an end by sapping them economically and crushing their morale. We supplied weapons to the South Koreans. They kept a chunk of Northeast Asia free of communism. We supplied weapons to the Greeks. They crushed their communist insurgency, thereby preventing yet another addition to the Warsaw Pact. We supplied weapons to the Israelis, preventing them from being overrun during the Yom Kippur War, and practically threatened the Soviets with a nuclear first strike if they intervened. Israel is still around today. We supplied El Salvador and Colombia with weapons. They crushed the Communist movements in their countries, thereby preventing an even more massive outflow of people towards our border.

Bottom line is that we can walk and chew gum at the same time. We don't lack resources for controlling our border. What we lack is intent, on the part of our recent presidents, from Clinton through Obama. Until that intent materializes, we will continue to be swamped with illegals. Whether or not illegal immigration is controlled, making Russia's opening moves - in its renewed quest to bring the world under Russian rule - bloody and costly remains an important American interest, given that we are part of that world they'd like to put under the Russian boot.

Which is exactly why the CPUSA in control of the WH in DC is doing everything possible to let their comrades in Russia skate.

We haven't had a POTUS that made looking out for USA interests as job number one since Reagan.

Easy for a lying, dedicated Putinista for you to say, since you don't want anyone actually believing Putin's people shot down an airplane with innocent people. But the joke's on you, since pictures and Russkies dancing for joy as they shoot down an airline, do not lie.

If not now when? When they are invading Paris? Whether you believe in God or not, the fact is we have to stand for something, if Russia thinks it can boss it’s neighbors around we need to stand in it’s way. I realize as a 37 year old arm chair quarterback that is easy to say, I may not have to spill my own blood, however, given that I still believe that the right thing to do is pretend it’s the cold war all over again, we need to roll up a multitude of armor divisions up against Russian borders, we need the Air force to buzz the borders, we need to let the Russians know we will not tolerate this non-sense of invading neighbors. This includes at home against an unarmed invasion of immigrants. We need a leader that is capable of this and a country that can elect that leader. If not, instead of thousands or tens of thousands of causalities, we will be facing ten of millions, maybe even hundreds of million of dead people around the globe.

Cannot trust Obama and the current defense department to do that. Did you see who was just promoted to 4 star general? A woman with ZERO combat experience, JUST BECAUSE she was a woman and black, as part of ‘diversity hiring’.

Our military has been hollowed out, the best generals and commanders relieved of duty in the wake of DADT repeal and other assorted Marxist social engineering.

Your military is trained that the ‘Founding Fathers would not be welcome in it’, that terrorist organizations include Catholics and Evangelicals. This is Obama’s military now and they will not stop Putin any more than they will stop Baghdadi. The admin even take care of the vets for crying out loud!

Outstanding comment that makes me wish FR had a "like" button.

You are especially correct with regard to Columbia, which was a huge success, and is a very pro-America nation among hostile neighbors.

Hyperbole aside, a confrontation between a resurgent Russia operating on its own nearby soil and American interests there - whatever that may be - can escalate and have nasty consequences.
Nobody thought that shooting one little government official in serbia would destabilize the world for 40 or 50 years either.

Russia can easily back out of it’s two faced help via a via Iran and a nuclear Iran will be a nightmare.

There are many other options as well not to mention the disaster of America interests being kicked aside as Russian forces do as they please there.
Now if you want to destabilize that area of the world - and that may be a credible goal - for the next 20 years, then yes, pour in arms next to Russian territory.

That would explain a lot of what Obama and Putin have done in last 5 years.
