It must be noted that this poll was taken in April and May, before the Gaza conflict.

But with Fox News reports like this “Obama says US supports Isreal’s offensive in Gaza” 7/18/2014, I wonder if Obama’s approval rating of 71% among Isrealis will come down much, even though he has botched his handling of this crisis.

This is the amount of quote that is allowed here ...

The fact that Israelis are one of the most staunchly pro-American people in the world is not new. But that their confidence in Barack Obama’s ability to handle world affairs climbed dramatically in 2014 to reach an all-time high? That will surely surprise and confound both supporters and detractors of the U.S. president.

Nonetheless, these are some of the findings included a new poll on global attitudes released this week by the Pew Research Institute. According to the poll, 84% of Israelis have a favorable view of the United States, second only to the Philippines, with 92%, among the 44 countries surveyed.

More surprisingly, 71% of Israelis now have “confidence in Obama to do the right thing in world affairs”, a 10% increase over last year. The new figure is the highest it’s ever been in Pew’s annual survey, and is significantly more than the 56% that Obama garnered in 2009 and his low point of 49% in 2011.

In other news, Obamacare is a roaring success, veterans are being treated like gods by the government, Michelle Obama will be over to your house this weekend with a boatload of steak and lobster and Joe Biden is giving away free shotguns at the Naval Observatory.

Perhaps Haaretz has forgotten the series of polls showing throughout Hussein’s first term that had him around 3 or 4 percent.

I certainly haven’t forgotten!

I was relieved to find out Am Ha’aretz did not misspell ‘Israelis’, but these days, even the BBC does stuff like that.

Ha'aretz leans to the left in Israel and against Israel in matters of defense, as do the following kind of constituent here in the States. They lean against U.S. defense from both U.S. parties, many of them while pointing blame at Jewish people and Israel.

About "70 million" people are receiving good incomes but are also steeped in debt and can't borrow more for big ticket items.

So which U.S. political party should the Israelis run to for help? During the 2004 Republican campaign, the Official Republican Platform promised to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel instead of Tel Aviv. Instead, Israel received the following treatment (links accessed and posted, some with quotations, long ago).

Commencement Address at Boston College (Secretary Condoleezza Rice, Boston, Massachusetts, May 22, 2006. US Department of State)

Excerpts:

As a student of a Catholic high school, the Sisters of Loretta taught me, I am pleased to be at an institution of higher education with such strong and celebrated Catholic and Jesuit traditions . . . You see, I got my Master's Degree at Notre Dame. (Boos.) I acquired a passion for the fighting Irish . . . and my family has been college educated and Presbyterian ever since. (Laughter and applause.) . . . I wandered into a course on international politics taught by a Czech refugee who specialized in Soviet studies, a man who had a daughter by the name of Madeleine Albright. With that one class, I was hooked. I discovered that my passion was Russia and all things Russian.

Democrats are hyper-regulating socialists. So are Republicans, especially in state and local levels of government. We Americans also have no political party to support.

This poll doesn’t surprise me. Obama got 69% of the Jewish vote in 2012 and Shimon Peres awarded him Israel’s highest civilian honor, the Medal of Distinction.
