Obama Diminishes Grandmother's Accomplishments In Austin Speech
Whitehouse.gov Press Office ^ | July 15, 2014 | BradyLS

I listened to part of the President's speech at the Paramount Theater in Austin, Texas, given last Thursday (July 10, 2014) on the radio as I drove to Lockhart. One part of his speech leapt out at me and I haven't heard or read of anyone commenting on this particular quote.

"When I think about equal pay, I think about my grandmother working her way up at a bank with nothing but a high school education and becoming the vice president of the bank, but always being kind of passed over for the next stage by men who were less qualified than she was."

Did you catch that? When Barack Obama was a kid, his grandmother rose to become a vice-president at the bank she worked for with "nothing more" than a high school education—"but always being kind of passed over for the next stage by men who were less qualified than she was."

Wait a minute: was there a succession of men with no high school education who glad-handed their way past her to higher posts? Bank president, for example?

Clearly the bank recognized her ability—even if "all" she had was a high school education—to promote her to a VP position. Is it me? Or did he belittle the achievement of his grandmother?

We're familiar with what he thinks of his grandmother through a quote from his 2008 campaign days: "A typical white woman" who once admitted being afraid of an aggressive black panhandler. But here he's tossed her under the bus again by belittling her achievements (not to mention raising him and enrolling him into an exclusive school after his mother died) while trying to portray her as some downtrodden woman who's ability was not recongized. It would not take much more education for another bank employee of equal experience and ability to be more qualified for higher positions, but she still rose as high as bank vice-president. For a succession of men with less qualifications to pass over her would mean that they had less ability, experience, or education. At a bank!

Not sure you can believe anything he says about his past or his family’s past. Of course, don’t expect the MSM to do any fact checking.

It’s ALL just a story ... no analysis to it ... just a story.

Whenever I hear about Obama’s youth in Honolulu, several timezones from the nearest American blackness, living with his grandparents and attending the elite Punahou School, I am reminded that he is not authentically black. He’s a freak who chose to be black (and, more important, red) as a vocation!

How were the men less qualified? If Grandma had a high school education, does that mean the men had less education?

Companies hire and promote based on a number of factors. Just being an employee longer than anyone else doesn't necessarily qualify a person for a promotion. Maybe the men were promoted because they had a better education. Maybe they had the right attitude and personality for the position.

I worked as a legal secretary for 35 years, 22 of them with the same law firm. I may have had more working experience than the youngsters fresh out of law school, but I would have never expected to become an attorney solely on my work experience. I didn't have their education.

This whole “war on women/income inequality” agenda is a load of cr@p.

He just says stuff.

It’s like this guy:

“Do I really look like a guy with a plan? I just do things.”

it’s a terrible story, if he were trying to make a point... he diluted it both ways because he wants it both ways... either his grandmother did well despite only having a high school education, or his grandmother did not do well because of inequality... his “kind of passed over,” kills his story either way... how is anyone “kind of” passed over? if either of my sons used this wording when talking with me, i would think he were lying...

A sociopath manufactures the past to fit their agenda.

A high school education was more the norm back then. Undoubtedly when he was referring to her qualifications he was referring to her on-the-job experience.

It is quite likely that less qualified men were promoted over her back then, since that was the norm at the time as well.

I don’t believe he is diminishing her accomplishments here, he is saying she merited a higher position than she received.

Also, a bank has a million vice presidents.

I am reading a book about psycopathy/sociopathy - “Without Conscience”, and this disjointed, contradictory story telling, that The Won excels at, is typical of a sociopath.

***(not to mention raising him and enrolling him into an exclusive school after his mother died)***

I don’t disagree with your premise necessarily, but Obama was just two years shy of being elected to the Illinois State Senate when his mother died. She was 52 years old when she died, and she was 18 when she gave birth to Obama. So Grandma didn’t enroll him in an exclusive school after his mother passed; he was already an adult. Basically his mother abandoned him when he was a young boy, and his grandparents raised him in Hawaii. At least this is the story according to the LSM.

This certainly comes closest to how I think about the quote. Glad I'm not the only one who interpreted it that way.

He and the Clintons are exemplars of that kind of story-telling, to be sure.
