The Northridge earthquake of 1994 was 6.7.

Loma Prieta (1989) was 6.9.

It’s hard to tell from that map, is this another deep one?
I can’t recall the details of the last one that did major damage off the top of my head..

After the Typhoon, perhaps...

Then after the Tsunami warning...

THEN after first taking a reading of how hot the surf & sand are (bq).

But I suppose not necessarily in that order.

This one is 6.9 miles: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/usb000rs50#summary

According to wiki, the 2011 Fukushima was 19 miles deep:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_T%C5%8Dhoku_earthquake_and_tsunami

In the *two* days before the 311 9.0 quake, there were some strong EQs in the same area as the big one, two in the low 7s and I think also a couple in the 6s.
