Parts of it, like the edges of Kalifornia where all the liberals clutter can all take a dip in the ocean leaving the conservative inland intact.

Yep - depth has a lot to do with the effects....just yesterday we had a beentsie 3.2 about sixteen miles south of us, and it was maybe 2 or 3 miles deep — but it rumbled and then gave us a good thump.....something we don’t usually experience until the upper 4’s on the scale.

Notably Fresno, home of the boss and our gracious, Patriotic host.

I’m still concerned about the Cascadia Subduction Zone. Runs offshore from Vancouver Island in Canada all the way to north-central Cali, where it hooks up with the San Andreas.

If THAT goes....most of the PNW is in a world of hurt. It’s the same type of fault as the 2011 Japan quake.

Yes, I watched it too. It was horrible seeing people driving and their vehicles being swept away.

Two smaller aftershocks at same location.

The Northridge earthquake of 1994 was 6.7.

It was actually a 7.1, but the Clinton administration "downgraded" it because the law dictates that the Feds have to pick up the tab for all damages in an EQ of 7.0 or greater, and Slick had cronies that needed that taxpayer money more than us EQ victims did..

Only two earthquakes have really scared me and Northridge was one of them. Sylmar was the other.

The obligatory bi-weekly tsunami warning...

Do these things ever pan out? I can only remember two tsunami in past 20 years or so, we had the one in Japan and then the one in that Sri Lanka type country that happened around Christmastime.

Chile has suffered several of them. But the human toll was minimal.

Earthquakes can result in fantastic happenings.

The summit of Mount Everest, for instance, "is formed of rocks made in a shallow sea."

That fact comes from "Darwin's Ghost" by Steve Jones, a comprehensive update of Darwin's famous work.
