Benghazi panel ramps up

There are no Benghazi hearings on the House calendar, but the silence doesn’t mean the investigation is fading away.

Rep. Trey Gowdy is launching a special committee to wrangle a probe that’s sprawled across the jurisdictions of multiple headline-hungry committee chairmen.

And while the South Carolina Republican isn’t committing to specifics, like whether there will be public hearings with high-profile witnesses like former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, his methodical approach could help the GOP savor a scandal that has at times looked more like a political sideshow.

“No one [has] defended the five-minute questioning [process] as the most calculated way of eliciting the most amount of information,” Gowdy said in an interview. “There is most assuredly a place for hearings but not if your primary focus is to gather facts.”

While there isn’t much happening publicly, the House select committee investigating the Sept. 11, 2012, attacks on the U.S. facility in Benghazi, Libya, is busy behind the scenes.

The panel is examining subpoenas from committees that previously investigated the Benghazi attacks to develop a list of unanswered questions from the Obama administration. There is also outreach to agencies that received requests for information.

Meanwhile, Gowdy is planning a series of closed-door meetings this month that could include a screening of a classified video from the Benghazi compound. He’s also checking with the 11 other lawmakers on the panel about working through the August recess.

"...to develop a list of unanswered questions from the Obama administration

That shouldn't be too hard. Why did Obama order a stand down? Why did he lie for 2 weeks, claiming it was over a youtube video? Why were an admiral and a general relieved of duty? If Bush was president at the time liberals would be demanding to know the color of his socks that day. But now they're silent.

If it was terrorism, why did Hillary spend $90,000 State Dept bucks to ADVERTISE the notion it was all due to a video…?

If the Turkish ambassador arrived and there were roadblocks all around the facility, HOW did he get out..?

WHY did the “rescuers” take our dying Ambassador to a hospital controlled by Al Qaeda? How did we get him out..?

WHY did they change the legal names of all the survivors and sprinkle them around the globe, threatening their families and forcing them to all sign non-disclosure agreements…?

Is there any evidence that the sudden incidents of US helicopters being shot down by missiles were via OUR OWN missiles…?

Use of laser designators raise danger to the user. If we had no armed aircraft over Bengazi that night, WHY were those experienced fighters using the laser designators..? Did some one lead them to believe that air-support was inbound…?

Do you have any knowledge that ANYONE on the US side that night for some reason preferred that our two fighters DIE, instead of fighting on..?

The Situation Room has special commo gear to facilitate control of a rapidly evolving tactical situation. Meanwhile the WH upstairs is a place dedicated more to political concerns:

We know that at no point that night was the Prez in the Situation Room —WHERE was he..?

Was he upstairs, taking care of purely domestic political considerations during this tragedy..?

Right you are, Trey. The 5-minute questioning process is a way to do two things: run out the clock, and grandstand. It isn't a way to get to truth when there's an involved conspiracy to withhold it.

This could only have been a top-secret compartmented program operation with a nefarious mission. It went awry and the cover-up began. Even a special prosecutor probably could not get to the bottom of this. IMHO

I want the Perry Mason moment where we learn from a member of the White House staff that on 9/11-12 Obama was huffing nitrous oxide (whippets) and committing sodomy with Reggie Love. Go Gowdy.

Bingo. The usual play for a Democrat is to give a speech filled with nothing but the week’s talking points and blame for George Bush for 4.5 minutes, then rush his question through and tell the witness to submit his answer in writing “for the record”.

No way Hillary agrees to testify in public.

she can’t afford for the world to see Gowdy shred her and make her blow her short temper again.

Has anyone seen the Wikipedia page for the Benghazi attack? It looks like a document dump intended to obscure the factual events. It really needs a bullet list of events at the top of the article. A casual reader should be able to read the summary and make their own conclusions.
