America the almost great: Just 28% say U.S. is No. 1
Washington Examiner ^ | July 5 2014 | Paul Bedard

The view of Americans across the board that the United States is No. 1 in the world has dropped in just the last three years, with Democrats and younger Americans especially believing that the nation, while among the greatest, does not stand above the rest, according to a new survey.

A new Pew Research Center report timed for Independence Day found that just 28 percent believe that the U.S. “stands above all other countries in the world,” 58 percent say it is “one of the greatest countries in the world, along with some others,” and 12 percent said that there are other countries “that are better.”

The numbers reveal a big drop in just three years. Pew said that in 2011, 38 percent said the U.S. was No. 1.

The biggest drop in how America is viewed by its own citizens came among Republicans. Some 52 percent said America stood above the others in 2011. That has dropped to 37 percent.

But Democrats are lower on the scale. “Democrats and independents continue to be less likely than Republicans to view the U.S. as exceptional, and fewer say this today than did so in 2011,” said Pew, which pulled the numbers from its online political typology survey and quiz.

The numbers: In 2011, 33 percent of Democrats said America “stands above” others. Today just 25 percent believe that.

And Americans ages 18-29 are at the bottom of those who view the nation as standing alone in greatness. Said Pew, “Just 15 percent of those under 30 express that view today, down from 27 percent three years ago.”

America used to manufacture a (lot) of stuff.

Now we have exported a large part of our manufacturing, to China. But not only manufacturing.

Also computer coding. Everything in fact.

We are sending away, the very things which made America great.

Bring back jobs.

When I was a young man, they built big buildings, filled them with machines, called them factories, and built things to sell.

When I was middle aged, they built big buildings, filled them with racks and shelving, called them warehouses, and sold stuff from China.

Now that I’m an old man, they don’t build big buildings anymore.

Fill the country with immigrants who seek only to make more money while turning out generations of kids steeped in marxist indoctrination from public schools and - surprise surprise - suddenly 72% are either ambivalent or actually dislike the country in which they live.

Just wait until the statists need cannon fodder to protect their own personal nest eggs from some external threat. They're gonna have a helluva time convincing folks in flyover country to give over their kids.

Wait a minute! The federal government is building them all over the place. We need somewhere to keep all our "public servants."

In the 1960s Americans accepted birth control. It led to rejection of and destruction of the family, widespread abortion, the degradation of femininity, motherhood and marriage.

Men are seen as opportunistic wimps in cultural media, and look at how they act in public, in congress, for example

Self confident psychos took over in this vaccuum of morality and they pervade in school, cultural media, government and in commerce

As long as people skirt around that reality we will be in this mess

This post will get flamed to the extent that that situation is rejected in conservative circles. So multiply it for liberal or mainstream and that’s the picture of how far we’ll have to go to fix it, or how far we’ll have to fall before we admit it

Look at hobby lobby. A fight for $9.00 per month went to the Supreme Court and is maligned by the upper echelons of our society as something it was not, just for an example of what I’m talking about, how powerful a tool for the enemy (who wants our great country to fail) birth control is

Doubt it? Watch what happens when the little sisters of the poor’s struggle takes center court

The most conservative among us will pressure them to fold. Birth control is no big deal, they’ll be told , by self proclaimed Catholics

If it were no big deal, these people would have been exempted

So the question then is to the administration, why is birth control such a big deal?

It is integral to the destruction we see

You are partly right. We have exported a lot of manufacturing and manufacturing jobs.

But you should look at the statistical data on U.S manufacturing. It's not that bad. Even Obama can't hold it down despite his efforts to do so.

What's changing is the productivity of manufacturing in this country. More automation. Fewer people. Increased productivity.

I can't vouch for the data below but I think it is pretty close. The Chinese passed us up in about 2012 or so due partly to the reason you gave and partly due to the fact that China is just a huge country population-wise. In any case, we are climbing much faster than #3 and #4 and probably all the rest.

Our goose is not yet cooked. We are, despite Obama, still a manufacturing powerhouse.

If you live in Detroit, you probably wouldn’t believe America is still #1. I wouldn’t believe it and I certainly wouldn’t live in Detroit.

I think our goose is not yet cooked because we have a constitution

Some treat the country like it is a corporation.

China has a national manufacturing policy, which requires manufacturing locally, and also requires a local majority owner (to the best of my knowledge).

American manufacturing in China, is (again, to the best of my knowledge) all done with a majority Chinese owner.

We sell the manufacturing to China. Holding only a minority stake.

So in effect, we are selling all of our manufacturing. To a massive communist country.

This is not a way to build up our own country.

Bring back American manufacturing. We have sold out quite enough.

Wake up GOP.

Bring back American jobs to America.

Now.

Just 28% say U.S. is No. 1

The vast majority on the Left say- " 'No. 1' on the U.S."
