Richard Mellon Scaife, the billionaire publisher and banking heir who financed conservative causes that included attempts to discredit Bill Clinton while he was president, has died. He was 82.

Scaife's death on Friday followed his disclosure less than two months ago that he had terminal cancer, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, one of his newspapers.

He was heir to the banking, oil and aluminum fortunes of the Mellon family and used his estimated $1.4 billion wealth to underwrite conservative crusades and groups that included the Heritage Foundation, the Cato Institute and the American Enterprise Institute.

Let’s all hope he set things up to keep going, but no enterprise ever lives long after the founder.

Meanwhile, George Soros still pollutes this mortal sphere, probably because the Devil doesn’t want the competition.

every conservative rich guy in this country seems to somehow leave the fortune in the hands of evil....like Kerry's wife who inherited a great fortune from her gop husband...

I hope this guy made sure that only his special conservative leanings would get his money...

I don’t think so but I am not an expert on his various opinions.

We was a “man of the right” supporting every solid conservative from Goldwater on. He put his money and influence where it would do the most work. He was one of the people that, knowing the corruption of Clinton, facilitated exposing him in every way possible.

If he said something at one time that some in some issue polity took issue with, it does not erase a lifetime of solid action and spending his own capital to defend the Right.

True indeed. So many go under or flounder or change direction after the founder dies.

Tried to discredit slick?

Slick did that all on his own, Scaife just pointed it out.

CNN just can’t report news without a cheap shot at conservatives

Rest in peace sir, good job!

In most cases their children or their grandchildren, being born to wealth and privilege become dedicated liberals. They hire their liberal school chums to run their foundation and they all have fun promoting liberal causes. That’s why Milton Friedman arranged for his foundation to end upon his death.

You'll need to go here for those . . and more.

Washington Compost certainly reflects its readers' leftist politics. And they have no respect for the dead, either.
