A leading adviser at the Department of Homeland Security has jumped from the frying pan into the fire, following up comments about the Constitution being “Islamically compliant” with an even more head-turning tweet — that America is an Islamic country.

In October, adviser Mohamed Elibiary sent out a Twitter message that said, “Yes, I do consider the United States of America an Islamic country with an Islamically compliant constitution. Move on!

I blame George W. Bush squarely for not only failing to, but going out of his way to not identify islam with terrorism. By not clearly identifying the enemy and instead blaming it on some nebulous concepts that include molesting crippled nuns in airports but not purging the country of islamists aholes like this, Bush gave us a big steaming dump that is the source of all our recent military failures and miscalculations. He’ll go down in history as a likeable stooge.

I don't understand this. If, according to him, the United States is -- already is -- "an Islamic country with an Islamically compliant constitution", then he's saying that according to Islam it doesn't need any fundamental changes (modifications to comply with Sharia law, that sort of thing) -- good! I don't agree with him, of course -- don't agree that it complies with Islam, and don't want it to -- but he seems to be arguing against the Islamists who want to change it (which is a good thing, though I doubt that they'll fall for that phony claim).
