The White House rejected calls on Friday for a special prosecutor to look into lost IRS emails and the inappropriate targeting of conservative groups, saying Republican investigations have failed to find a smoking gun.

The point of having a special prosecutor IS to find a smoking gun. If we knew of one, we wouldn’t need a special prosecutor. But their blantant cover-up, well beyond anything the Nixon Administration ever did, is preventing discovery without one.
