When future generations try to understand how the world got carried away around the end of the 20th century by the panic over global warming, few things will amaze them more than the part played in stoking up the scare by the fiddling of official temperature data. There was already much evidence of this seven years ago, when I was writing my history of the scare, The Real Global Warming Disaster. But now another damning example has been uncovered by Steven Goddard’s US blog Real Science, showing how shamelessly manipulated has been one of the world’s most influential climate records, the graph of US surface temperature records published by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Why the surprise that temperature data was fiddled with?

There was money to be made, lots of it, and those who stood to gain were willing to lie about the data and unquestionably would be willing to kill for it, if necessary in order to perpetrate the lie.

The article states that this is because of computer fraud by the United States..

I wonder if there is an Executive Order by Obama somewhere to change temperatures since we have actually been recording cooler temperatures.

Thanks for the ping E. Of course for those of us that have been following this for the past six years or so, we already knew how NOAA’s US Historical Climatology Network (USHCN) has been “adjusting” its record by replacing real temperatures with data “fabricated” by computer models.

And of course we knew how all this crap data was then sent to the European computers used by the IPPC primarily to make false claims as to what global temperatures really where.

It's all criminal of the highest order and no one yet has had to face a judicial system. I don't expect it ever to happen.
However. I'm glad to see the UK paper picking up on the scandal.
Notice how Jim Hansen for one who was responsible at his HQ at Columbia University who sent the crap data files to the IPPC sites in London, just quietly retired last year.
