My current favorite knife is the karambit. Though there are a very large number of styles, this is the basic concept. In the bottom holding position, by your side it would be concealed behind your forearm. In the top position, it would extend to a few inches beyond your arm length.

I used to consider karambits a silly knife until I saw some of Doug Marcaida’s videos.
