Briton's jihad video leaves family 'heartbroken'

The father of a British man who has appeared in a video aimed at recruiting jihadists has said he is "heartbroken" his son left the UK to fight in Syria.

In the film, would-be medical student Nasser Muthana, 20, from Cardiff, urges others to fight in Syria and Iraq.

The footage emerged after militants led by jihadist group the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isis) made rapid advances through Iraq in recent weeks, seizing several northern cities and surrounding the country's biggest refinery.

He described his son - who had been offered places by four universities to study medicine - as quiet, well-educated and intelligent.

Barak Al Bayaty, a trustee for one of the Cardiff mosques attended by Nasser Muthana, said he might have been radicalised via the internet.

He said spiritual leaders at the mosque were opposed to going to Syria to participate in an armed struggle - and had made this clear.

"I'm a parent. We are alarmed, we are alarmed for our fellow citizens," he said.

He warned against "demonising the Muslim community itself", adding that "the vast majority of Muslim people are really worried about this situation and are working with us to try and identify those people that may be at risk".

He didn’t settle, he was born here. Gives him more right to be referred to as British than the wog in the White House has to be called American. Before you start casting stones across the pond, first get rid of the anchor baby boulder on your own foot.

For the umpteenth time - not that it’ll make much of a difference:

You can break the Muslim population in any Western country into three groups.

The Immigrants - they come to the West to get away from Sharia, restrictive roles and to find some opportunity that is based on hard work and sweat, not who you know. They are not afraid of hard work either and try to both fit in with and enjoy the customs of their new nation. Usually massively beneficial to the host country, since it takes both brains and courage to “up sticks and leave.”

The Refugees - They refuse to fit in. Make tight little enclaves to keep their own culture alive and reject local culture and all bar very basic interactions. I’d rather they weren’t here, but people are soft headed at times. A good 99% of our hate spewing Imams are refugees. Deport them back to their shit holes and be done with it.

The Children - These are the problem. Raised in Western culture, but they don’t quite fit yet. Most of them are fine, turn out to be solid citizens, though they are a little ashamed of being different. It’s only their kids who go back and enjoy the bits that make them different without resenting their nation.
Some of them - usually around the rebellious teenage years - start looking at the family culture and are easy meat for the hate spewers. To a confused and slightly alienated kid, cults are always attractive.

Don’t take my word for it. Look up the history of any immigrant colony in the USA and draw your own conclusions. Chinese, Vietnamese, Italian, Irish, German, Dutch, Swedish - it always follows the same pattern.
Even your internal migrations follow the same pattern, mostly. Think of Boston or New York in the later 1700’s. Tough people, some good, some bad, but mostly hard working. The flyover country opened up, and the toughest, most self reliant moved on to new lands, leaving the population left behind slightly dumber and slightly less able.

I commiserate with the father in him fearing his good little boy may end up blowing himself up, getting whacked by a Hellfire missile, or misted by a 50 cal.

That said, why the heck is it that you always hear these "don't condemn Muslims because we are [insert adopted country name here] too, blah blah blah ..fear for our countrymen...blah blah blah..." But we NEVER, NEVER ONCE have seen a demonstration by pro [insert adopted country name here] Muslims condemning radical Islamic Jihadist acts - NEVER.

No doubt Britain and most of western Europe needed an infusion of young productive immigrants especially in view of the catastrophic genetic losses in the first half of the 20th century and the declining endemic birth rate in the second half. Indeed there has been “change”. The question however to be posed is Has the fundamental change that has occurred been a good thing for Western culture? You would have to take off the politically correct blinders to thoroughly explore and answer the question. BTW some of the immigrants you describe are known in the US as “aspirantes”. The theory is the brightest and best left bad situations and the not so ambitious remained. Also there is no law or border that will prevent a rational human being from migrating from miserable poverty and chaos to area of prosperity, opportunity and stability. Certainly hope you like your immigrants because a lot more will be coming soon to the lands formerly known as Christendom fleeing the failed Muslim cultures that corrode when confronted with modernity and the failed political entities of Africa. The ones around home - I can live with. Do live with, have cookouts, parties and celebrations with, and it’s their comments on their own children that is the basis of the third category. And my God, they hate the refugees.

Is there change with immigrants? Of course there is. Again, look to your own country. A bunch of misfits and malcontents got together to create something new and admirable - slightly foolish, but it works so far, despite the odds. Then you opened up a bit more - German miners, Swedish farmers, Jewish doctors, Irish (well, whatever the Irish do) and went from a fairly second rate country to THE powerhouse in under 50 years.

I am being slightly tongue in cheek here - but there are good immigrants and bad. Sticking them all with the same “bad” label is not good. “Prove yourself” is good enough for me.
