Gen. David Petraeus, the former commander for U.S. military efforts in Iraq, warned that airstrikes to help Shia militias are not the solution to stopping extremists who are seeking to undermine efforts by the country to maintain its own government.

"This cannot be the United States being the air force of Shia militias or a Shia on Sunni Arab fight,"

In the past two weeks, ISIS — the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), a bloodthirsty offshoot of al-Qaida — has been taking over city after city in Iraq and engaging in the mass slaughter of civilians. This renewed violence and undermining of progress has been disheartening for those who fought hard on the ground in the conflict to restore stability and freedom. It is also seen as a growing security threat for the U.S.

While Shia Muslims make up the majority in Iraq, prior to the U.S. invasion, a Sunni minority held power. Moving forward, al-Maliki's ongoing division within his country will continue to cause problems.

I’m confused-

US should launch targeted military strikes on ‘terrorist army’ Isis, says General David Petraeus

Forget Sunni - Shia

Send in our B-52 to carpet bomb anything that moves in the
ISIS captured areas .
This is about al Qaeda , our mortal enemy . No quarter , kill them first and in great numbers . B-52 can do that .

THAT is the message we need to send : plowed ground

I wonder if Bummer will tap Petraeus to take over the Iraq problem. Just because he got some strange doesn’t mean his military ideas are dumb. I suspect Bummer is tired of the BS put out by the ass kissing sycophants in the Pentagon who can’t get it up anymore.

“I’m confused-”

I think he means that we can’t trust them to identify targets for us. We can go after Isis if we want but we can’t do it while taking direction from the Shia government.

B-52’s I agree upon their usage.

Why not, instead of shia-this, suni-that, or ISIS-whatever, drop daisy-cutters en masse on all of them, followed with fuel-air explosives?

I still believe in the execution of Pax Carthage.

Air power is often over sold, but it's power can be decisive. Remember the so-called "Highway of Death?" That's the type of thing that can and should be done against al Qaeda in Iraq.

BUT....in Syria Assad (Alewite), Alewites (a Shia sect) and regular old Shiites...all three represent a minority...Obama wanted airstrikes BIGTIME.

We can’t weigh in on Sunni vs Shia strife => unless it’s on the side of Sunni’s.

This is what Obama (Sunni), Saudi’s (Sunni), Qatari’s (Sunni), Turkey (Sunni) and the Muslim Brotherhood (Sunni) demand.
