More likely a derogatory name for New York Dutch, from Jan-Kees (a typical name) or Janke (a diminutive of the Dutch name Jan).

New York Knicks has to go as well. Knickerbocker is also a derogatory term for New York Dutch.

We have a way here in North Carolina of converting many of our northern transplants. The whole shop burst into uncontrollable laughter when our boss from Pittsburgh described his neighbor as a "Damned Yankee".
