US Jobless Claims Fall 6,000 To 312,000 In June 14 Week

WASHINGTON (MNI) - Initial jobless claims for U.S. state unemployment benefits fell by 6,000 to 312,000, in the June 14 week, the Labor Department reported Thursday.

The 312,000 level of jobless claims was slightly better than the 314,000 median expectation from a forecast survey compiled by MNI. The June 7 week was revised up by 1,000 to 318,000.

This weeks claims report also coincides with the week the BLS conducts the survey for the June employment report. Claims are down 15,000 from the comparable survey week in May and a Labor Department analyst said there were no special factors and no states were estimated.

The four week moving average for initial claims fell 3,750 to 311,750 as the May 17 week jump in claims rolled off.

The Labor Department said seasonal adjustment factors had expected a 2.5% decrease in unadjusted claims, or a 7,946 decrease, in the June 14 week. Instead, unadjusted claims fell 4.2%, or 13,178 to 300,193. That level is below the 336,970 level reported in the comparable week a year ago.

The level of continuing claims came in at 2.561 million after seasonal adjustment in the June 7 week, an decrease of 54,000 from the previous week, and the four week moving average fell 21,750 to 2.601 million which is the lowest level since November 3, 2007 when it was 2.586 million.

It is amazing to me that decreases of just a few thousand in new claims for unemployment are trumpeted as economic salvation while the Hundreds of Thousands of claims still remain above 300,000 PER WEEK!, for about as long as I can remember. So many in fact, that we have near similar numbers rolling off that 99 week subsidy.

They resound gloriously at any weak decrease, yet totally ignore the daily increase of illegal invaders to this country relentlessly attacking our entitlement resources.

It’s all just one big Kabuki, and the media is the most willing enemy in my opinion.

Not really... They were 312K. Besides, nobody looks at the weekly numbers as they are always subject to revision (they are estimates after all). The 4 week moving average is a much better gauge. Here's the chart:

If you look at the chart in post 7 you will see that it has been above 300K for almost all of the last 40 years...

And if you look at the chart closely, you will see the massive spikes in recent years have been because of Carter and Obama.

Largest was in October 1982 when Reagan was president...

Nevertheless the 311,750 current 4WMA initial claims number is historically very low. The average for the entire chart is 362,807. Average since it “permanently” broke above 300,000 is 382,900.

Over 300,000 people losing jobs is good news only if the president is democrat.

Results of Carter. Besides that, what makes you feel the BLS and this government tells us anything that is based in fact?

Something tells be those numbers are “adjusted” numbers and not the actual values. Just more BS from the BLS.

All this means is that 6000 Americans have exhausted their benefits without finding work and have been dropped off the unemployment rolls. If you don’t count them, they don’t exist.

Prove otherwise. Until then conspiracy theories are a waste of time and energy.

From my perspective with a runaway agency like the IRS’s conspiracy and patently pathetic attempts to obfuscate, delay, subvert, punish and destroy evidence, it isn’t unreasonable to assume that the entire slate of Executive Branch agencies. I don’t need to prove otherwise. Any agency directly under control of Obama is not to be trusted one iota.
