Check the coverage. It may be great for you or it may suck. Depending on where you live.

You can get 10mps download satellite for $59 a month. That is competitive with cable."

hahahaha No it is not and I see you have not a clue about which you speak.

That offer gets you 20GB download capacity (or you can pay 69 for 50 gigs) or about 8 netflix movies in HD. Again they are NOT in the same league because they have very limited bandwidth due to the limits of wireless.

You keep trying to convince everyone that apples are oranges no wait actually you are trying to convince us that apples are Prime Rib.

No matter how hard you try they are NOT even close.

IF Big Media had not snapped up Big Communications you might get some real competition with multiple Cable and DSL phone companies but that ship has sailed and it will never come to pass to extract them while the Lords of K Street run Washington D.C.

There’s been an incestuous relationship between cable companies and politicians at all levels going back to the 70s.

HughesNet gives you unlimited data each month. If you exceed the 20GB they throttle your speed.

No. Just responding to your point that there was only one provider in your region.

So then it ISN"T 10 MBPS and it isn't comparable thanks for proving my point.

I see so not only do you not know what your are talking about, you haven't mastered basic English yet either.

Let us review: my statement:“Most areas (As I have already explained) have the choice of ONE Cable company and one phone company.” And when you asked me to name one I said MINE which is true.

Are you still not getting it Sparky, seriously my dog has it figured out by now.

It is 10 mbps to the limit and then it gets throttled. For most people that don’t reach the limit it doesn’t matter.

Apparently satellite IS competitive! The free market at work.

Charter, like many of its compatriots in the cable space, has seen satellite and IPTV pay-TV providers walk away with significant numbers of subscribers. - See more at: http://videomind.ooyala.com/blog/charter-plays-defense-doubles-residential-internet-speed-60-mbps-free#sthash.5zm0cDYf.dpuf

hahahah PAY -TV providers NOT Internet providers.

The reason they were losing customers was because they had shitty TV and Sat had better choices.

And woohoo you can download stuff at 60 MBPS its really sparky, Sparky: From the Charter Terms of Service

"Thresholds are commonly used in the industry, and Charter has established in the Company's Acceptable Use Policy "AUP" residential service thresholds at 100 gigabytes (GB) of bandwidth per month for customers subscribing to Lite and Express services, 250 GB of bandwidth per month for customers subscribing to Plus and Max (Grandfathered) service and 500 GB of bandwidth per month for Ultra100 service."

So wow you can download really fast then pay more or get throttled. IOW they are using bait and switch. Now consider this: June 14, 2014

Comcast's plan to make its merger with Time Warner Cable palatable to regulators would elevate Charter Communications to being the second-largest U.S. cable company.

The two companies announced a divestiture plan early Monday that would take effect after the close of the Comcast-Time Warner Cable merger. Charter would acquire about 1.4 million of Time Warner Cable's current subscribers in a cash deal, boosting its customer base from 4.4 million to 5.7 million. [snip]

The Comcast-Time Warner Cable deal faces likely approval from the Justice Department but was recently met with reluctance by a Senate panel. "I am deeply concerned that Comcast's proposed acquisition of Time Warner Cable would give Comcast both the power and the incentive to act as a gatekeeper on the Internet, raising costs and limiting choices for consumers," wrote Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., in a letter recently. See how open the free market in Cable TV is. They get to swap customers as long as the Gub'ment approves it. AND the customers have no say in it except pleading to the FED GOV. Now I wonder who the FED GOV will listen to? The customers OR the Lords of K Street who will dump tens of millions in the politiclowns campaign war chests?

Its all smoke and mirrors Sparky and we have definitely established some truth here:

First: There is no Free Market in Cable Communications

Second: You know exactly two things about the issue, Jack and Shit...

Hahahah

“First: There is no Free Market in Cable Communications”

I started checking providers to my house. I stopped at ten and this does not include cell phone hotspots.

Angies List says there are 334 internet providers in Houston.

hmmm. For $40 a month I can cruise around town streaming music or watch a movie or TV show while waiting for wife to shop or trade stocks on-line in the car or at the mall 24/7.

Free market at work!
