The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has canceled the Redskins' trademarks. The petitioners, consisting of five Native Americans, sought to cancel the trademarks based on a section of the Trademark Act that "prohibits registration of marks that may disparage persons or bring them into contempt or disrepute."

This move by the USTPO would be attributed to Obamas attention to detail and insistence that something be done about the the “Washington Redskins”.

But then they win. The Redskins are gone. Logos change - just like with my own Buffalo Bills.
We can't lose the Redskins. We can change the logo.

I really wish I cared about the NFL. I am on the Redskins’ side here...I hate that the government is keeping the team from using the name.
On the other hand, the NFL’s open celebration of sodomy and hatred of Rush Limbaugh’s effort to own part of a team has caused me to walk away from even watching pro football.
And when larger ethnic groups are considered, there are the Fighting Irish and the Minnesota Vikings (for starters).
This does not ban the Redskins from calling themselves Redskins, but it makes it harder for them to sue to stop knock-offs. I’d say they should stay Redskins and find as many American Indians as possible who like it (and there are a lot). And endure the knock-offs which at this point would only make them more famous, not less.
It’s stupid, but don’t get hung up on the stupidity. It’s really a way of making us all feel guilty for the eeeevvvviiiilllll things that this country has done, and all Whites are responsible for, and should feel guilty for, etc etc.
The country has wiped out slavery and discrimination. What’s left except to go after NAMES of teams?

I would think that Native Americans would be more offended by the Cowboys.
