URGENT: Thad Cochran is trying to steal this election!

This is an urgent call to action.

I wish it wasn't true, but it looks like Senator Thad Cochran supporters are trying to steal this election. The Clarion-Ledger is reporting that a POWERFUL DEMOCRATIC OPERATIVE inside Mississippi has been hired to go into Democratic communities and get those residents to vote for Cochran. We cannot let this blatant effort to steal the election go unanswered!

It’s illegal, SOP for dems and GOPe also for that matter.

<><><><><

What are you saying is illegal? My understanding is that if they voted in the R primary, or did not vote at all, a voter may vote in the in the runoff, regardless of their party.

Mississippi has an open primary, but if someone voted in the Democrat primary a few weeks ago they can’t turn around and vote in the Republican run-off. Thus, while it would be legal for a black Democrat who sat out the primaries (or who was convinced to cross over and vote for Cochran in the GOP primary) to turn out and vote on the GOP run-off, most of the politically active black Democrats (whom presumably voted in the Democrat primary) are legally prevented from voting in the Republican run-off. We must be vigilant that no one who voted in the Democrat primary is permitted to vote in the GOP run-off, but need to acknowledge that it is not illegal for a Democrat to urge Democrats who did not vote in the Democrat primary to vote on the GOP run-off. And we should definitely point out to Mississippi conservatives that the Democrats are seeking to invade the GOP primary to nominate Cochran and that to prevent it all conservatives must vote for Chris McDaniel.

As a longer-term solution, the MS legislature should mandate party registration and closed primaries in MS.

There has already been one report posted at FR that refers to “walking around money” to be disbursed to get black voters to vote for Chochran. Same old Democrat fraud.

Yep, the GOP’s self destructive decision to allow open primaries tells a lot about them.

Just as McCain and Romney giving the Presidential elections to Obama sure shows their not caring about which direction our country goes.

Can someone with first-hand knowledge, without speculation, wishful thinking, or "the way things should be" please tell us exactly who can vote in the MS Republican primary runoff?

Thank you.

I think a previous post said Dems who voted in their primary could not vote in the Republican primary.

But it’s all moot, how are they going to enforce it.

Nearly all Primary races need to be reformed. We should have the race being closed to only party members. The party should hold them whenever and however with the state only offering the machines and personnel to conduct the election with the party picking up the bill. With any party being one that has over a certain number of members

If there was a party that had 10,000 members and they wanted to put a name on the ballot selected from random lottery, I’d be okay with that.

Political parties suck because they’ve become institutionalized by the government.

Under Mississippi law the runoff is open to people who voted in the Republican primary or who didn't vote period. Link

Under Mississippi election law, voters who cast Democratic primary ballots are not eligible to vote in the GOP runoff, but that eliminates only about 85,000 voters among the state’s 1.9 million registered voters.

True.

What I was saying was illegal was for those that voted in the dem primary could not vote in this runoff.

As well as those legally allowed to vote in the runoff, the dems and the GOPe are also reaching out to those not eligible to do so. That is illegal, and WILL happen.

This has to be watched very closely.

Does it really matter what the law says?

Remember, we’re post-Constitutional at this point. What does a law mean anyways?

From the SOS regarding a runoff:

http://www.sos.ms.gov/news_press_release.aspx?id=584

If there is a Primary Runoff Election:

The 2014 Primary Runoff Election will be held on June 24, 2014 (Miss. Code Ann §23-15-305)
Polls are open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Citizens must have been registered for the June 3, 2014 Primary Election to be eligible
to vote in the June 24, 2014 Primary Runoff Election. If an eligible voter did not participate
in the June 3rd Primary Election, the voter may vote in either the Democratic or Republican
Primary Runoff. The State of Mississippi does not allow “crossover” voting. Meaning,
if a voter cast a ballot in the Democratic Primary, he/she must cast a ballot in the Democratic
Primary Runoff. If a voter cast a ballot in the Republican Primary, he/she must cast a ballot
in the Republican Primary Runoff. (Miss. Code Ann §23-15-575)Uniformed and Overseas ballots
have been transmitted in accordance with State and Federal law.

In Ohio their is no declaring of party.

When one walks into the precinct on primary day, he asks for either a republican or a democratic ballot.

So, it is the openest of open primaries.

Watching states with caucuses, I think I prefer a caucus even to a closed primary. Only the truly interested show up.

I'd like to know, but it's still unclear to me.

Let's try this:

Which of the following can vote in the MS Republican primary runoff:

1. Democrat voters who voted in the Republican primary

2. Democrat voters who voted in the Democrat primary.

3. Democrat voters who did not vote in any primary.

Open Primary?............

Yes and no. If you voted in the Democrat primary then you can't vote in the Republican run-off. If you voted in the Republican primary or didn't vote in the primary at all then you can. So Dems who stayed home a few weeks ago can vote in the run-off.
