California's Kevin McCarthy a virtual lock for House majority leader
Los Angeles Times ^ | June 12, 2014 | Lisa Mascaro

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Bakersfield) is all but assured of becoming the next House majority leader after a lawmaker considered to be a strong conservative challenger declined Thursday to run in the internal GOP race.

The affable McCarthy, now the No. 3 Republican in the House, is by no means the top choice among tea party lawmakers who believe the current leadership is tied too closely to the party's establishment wing. But the path for his ascent to the No. 2 spot seemed to clear Thursday as the potential challenger, Rep. Jeb Hensarling of Texas, said he would not seek the post.

I hope the conservatives can mount a successful last minute challenge.

That’s not going to help Boehner keep his seat, let’s hope.

When it comes to amnesty McCarthy is worse than Cantor was.

Even though this person sandbagged the GOP and deliberately lost them seats in the House.

So, the fix is in.

I guess they didn’t get the message.

And the only question with Cantor is how large his winning margin would be.

Forgive me if I don't believe anything the media says.

I think that Jeb H stood down to let fellow-Texan Sessions go for it.

"Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Bakersfield) is all but assured of becoming the next House majority leader

The only EFFECTIVE CONSERVATIVE out of California was essentially disowned by his own state.
Rep. Kevin McCarthy is as CONSERVATIVE as a 'towel-head 'is in Bagdad.
No true Conservative in leadership will result in Demolib victory, and rejection of the voter base/repeat of 2010 elections !
or MASS REVOLT !!
Your Choice ~ but USE YOUR BRAIN THIS TIME !!
Think of the future of this country , and dont screw it up this time !!

I guess they didn’t get the message.

On the contrary. They got the message. That's exactly why they are doubling down.

As much pleasure I got watching Cantor go down, it was just wonderful, the GOP response of doubling down only confirms my belief all along that these people are not going to be beaten at the ballot box. Only a 95% sweep there would suffice & that just isn't going to happen. Incremental-ism isn't going to work, not in our lifetimes.

The GOPe is second only to the Dems in lack of principles and ethics.

I'll never forget a close relative's reason for voting for Democrat Tom Foley. The reason ...

"He does wondeerful things for our district."

“The affable McCarthy”

We don't need “affable”. That means go along get along. We need combative, ingenious, devious and successful.

I knew something like this was in the works when that d-bag Canter announced he was stepping down NOW. The game plan is to select his successor NOW while that OTHER d-bag Boehner is speaker so he can exert his influence to assure another go-along get-along nebish with the personality of a warmed-over fish meal - like Cantor - is selected.

If I lived in Boehner’s district and I was a conservative Republican, I would vote for the Democrat just to flush that dirt bag down the toilette.

More so than McCarthy that’s for sure...

McCarthy is a hack binging on power and affluence now that he’s in DC...

I’ve seen him do less and less as time has gone by...but rest assured, when it comes to illegals, he’s all in...many of his constituents in the Bakersfield area are hispanic. The rest of us in the outlying ‘burbs are too white and too few for his liking I guess.
