Conservatives Predict Boehner Won’t Be Back as Speaker Next Year

Two outspoken conservative lawmakers predicted John Boehner’s days as House speaker are numbered—despite an assurance from the Ohio Republican that he has every intention to return.

In response to a question at today’s Conversations with Conservatives event on Capitol Hill, Reps. Raul Labrador, R-Idaho, and Matt Salmon, R-Ariz., said Boehner won’t be back next year.

“I don’t think he runs,” Labrador said.

“I don’t think he’s going to come back as speaker either,” Salmon added.

Boehner’s spokesman told The Daily Signal that’s not true. “The speaker has said—publicly and privately—that he intends to be speaker again next year,” Michael Steel said. “That has not changed.”

Which makes him dangerous. Hopefully the defeat of Cantor will make every other Republican think twice about immigration.

Why wait Conservatives? Since Cantor is resigning his leadership, now is a good time to show Boehner and McCarthy the door as well.

If the eGOP passes amnesty, I know Boehner won’t be back as Speaker. Nasty Pelosi will be the Speaker again.

Boehner is tougher, and more conservative, than many here think...

My guess, from here in Ohio, is he won't step down until at least after the November election, if then. Seems prudent! (for those who missed it, Boehner won his own primary very handily, a couple weeks ago)

But there must be quite a kerfuffle going on right now re: who will become the next House Majority Leader, LOL! Cantor is principled, and a good man, regardless of his shortcomings...you have to give him that at least, IMHO.

Boehner’s problem, like Cantor, isn’t degree of conservatism. Boehner was a pretty reliable vote earlier in his career. He’s sold out to K Street and the consultants, and lacks any political backbone. He’s also ill-suited to be the public voice of a party. He’s simply terrible at it.

Why not get rid of Boehner before next Friday?
