Just announced: Cantor stepping down at majority leader.
Trammel only signed up for the democrat position on Tuesday morning, the last hours of the last day possible. ... The day of the primary!
“One Virginia Republican familiar with the race suggested that Cantors loss was due to a perfect storm brought about by the fact that Cantor seemed to be schooled in the George Armstrong Custer school of tactics as opposed to Sung Tzu school. The Republican suggested that while immigration was a factor, the bigger issues were internal party politics. As opposed to other Virginia Republicans in Congress, Cantor didnt show the most basic respect to Tea Partiers in his district. It wasnt about Cantors votes but rather that he didnt even show up to explain himself and get yelled at. If the majority leader, who was the only Jewish Republican on Capitol Hill, had paid more attention to the words of Woody Allen, who said 80 percent of life is showing up, he would be in much better political shape.”
“But Cantor also exacerbated things by failing at attempts to play internal politics within the Republican Party of Virginia. In May, his candidate to run the congressional convention in his district, Linwood Cobb, was defeated solely because he was supported by Cantor. Grassroots Republicans resented that the House majority leader was trying to launch a boneheaded frontal assault on the state party to take control of it. The result meant was that run of the mill Paul Ryan Republicans were just as furious with Cantor as Tea Partiers were. In a straw poll taken at that the convention, Brat was the favorite of attendees, but so was the establishment choice for the Senate nomination, Ed Gillespie.”
Sweet.
But Dave Brat is all over the media claiming that he isn't a Tea Partier.
We have a crucial race here in the Twilight Zone - Richard Hanna (RINO DeLuxe) vs. Claudia Tenney...the muck from Hanna and the PACs is disgusting...but we are all motivated here to sweep Hanna away..
I don't care about what he says.
I care about what he does.
Good. That’s the right thing for him to do.
this, my friends, makes no sense... and it is an excellent example of one talking out of both sides of her a$$...
I’m sick of Brat “ran on an anti-immigration platform.” It’s just another example of the laziness of so-called journalists. He ran on a traditional Republican platform, and he ran against “amnesty” not against “immigration.”
Now people in SW Ohio need to hold their noses and plunk for the Dem in order to kick Boehner’s arse out of there.
“...its clear the GOP has redefined far right.
This is funny coming from a person who represents the extreme left and a minority OF a minority-which defines the whole ideologically featureless Liberal establishment!!
The Left is more rabidly extreme every day and has been on THIS course for decades, banging the same old drum and spewing the same tired and predictably groundless BS for donkey’s years!
Ponder the following:
* Cantor’s concession speech did NOT extend any good wishes to the victor.
* Cantor chose to speak of HIS previous work in Education, charter schools, discrimination and healthcare costs, with NO mention of Conservative ideas.
* Cantor’s concession speech was that of an arrogant, out-of-touch, elitist Democrat who considers Government to be a bottomless cookie jar to be doled out so that everybody is happy, fat and sassy.
* Prediction: Eric Cantor will be back in 2 years running as a Democrat for the US Senate from a Democrat-Controlled State, probably New York.
Wrong on at least two counts. Brat was not a "Tea Party" candidate, was not supported by any Tea Party group, and was only endorsed by the major groups after the election. He did run as a Conservative. As has already been said, his position on immigration is anti-amnesty. They did manage to get his name right.
If Cantor had anything left of a patriotic soul, he’d announce that over the years, “he lost his way” and was seduced by the dark side of power and politics. Then he’d jump off a bridge somewhere in France.
I don’t know how conservative he ever was. But these days, issues as they are and given the state of our Republic, its damn hard to hide where you stand and who you are as a politician. Actions speak volumes and more folks are paying attention these days. In the face of marching tyranny, silence and inaction is surrender.
I've seen a lot of that description today. Confessing I'm not up to speed on Mr. Brat's platform, but is he against immigration or illegal immigration?
You know the answer to that without even asking.
