Militants have seized the Turkish consulate in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul and efforts are under way to ensure the safety of diplomatic staff, two Turkish government sources told Reuters on Wednesday.

Sunni insurgents from an al Qaeda splinter group, the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), seized Mosul on Tuesday in a show of strength against Iraq's Shi'ite-led government.

"Certain militant groups in Mosul have been directly contacted to ensure the safety of diplomatic staff," a Turkish government source said, adding there was no immediate information on the status of the diplomats.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held an emergency meeting with the Undersecretary of Turkey's National Intelligence Agency (MIT) and Deputy Prime Minister Beşir Atalay to discuss the developments, Turkish media reported.

The seizure of the consulate comes a day after 28 Turkish truck drivers were abducted by ISIL militants while delivering diesel to a power plant in Mosul.

I’m trying to avoid hyperbole. It’s hard. This is a big deal. It’s Obama’s fault for arming ISIS in Syria.

Who knew, when we all but defeated the Taliban, forcing them into caves, sent Saddam into a hole in the ground, and put AQ on their heals, they would be celebrating huge victories over us just 11 years later? Iraq is may be lost. We don’t have the will to take it back. With Iraq, ISIS will easily take Syria. What else? Qatar? UAE? Yemen? Oman? Saudi? The answer is yes. If Iraq falls, the Taliban/AQ will take all of Arabia. I have a hunch Putin and Obama are behind all of it. They’ll then have to fight over which one gets to be Antichrist.

Reuters: Iraqi police and medical staff say a suicide bomber has just killed at least 16 people in the Shi’ite Sadr district in Baghdad.

Obama is definitely behind it, at least passively, but I’m not sure Putin benefits as much.

However, whatever happens, AQ has definitely been handed a major victory almost overnight. They’re staking out a huge territory, and there’s nobody to stop them (unless Iran, which is Shiite, attacks...which sure puts us between a rock and a hard place).

I think Iran will act. I hope the do. It’s a lose lose for us, but the alternative is terrifying. What I think is actually happening really scares me. ISIS has to be defeated quickly and we need to resist vigorously any military action Obama proposes.

Primarily because we know which side Obama will be on? He’s been a global supporter of whatever group is the most radically Islamist and greatest hater of the US since the very beginning.

Update at the link:

“An al-Qaeda splinter group seized the Turkish consulate in Iraq's second largest city of Mosul on Wednesday and took 48 Turkish citizens captive, including the Turkish consul.”

Sounds like we have a full-blown hostage situation.

They have just demanded a ransom of over $10 million from Turkey for the 28 Turkish truck drivers they kidnapped yesterday.

No. I know what side he’s on. I don’t get scared about what might happen to Iraq or Afghanistan or Syria or whatever. I’m afraid of what might happen here. Obama can’t fulfill his agenda as long as so many Patriotic Americans draw breath. There aren’t enough police and military willing to kill us. There are a lot, but not enough.

Watch for Balad airbase to fall soon. Then the Taji airbase. At that point they’ll be less than 30 miles from Baghdad.

There is some belief Turkey is behind ISIS invasion of Iraq. Turkey has long eyed the northern Iraqi oil fields. Similarly Iran may intervene in the south in support of the Shia.

They’re both interested in the oil.

You mean Arbil? We called it Irbil.

Are you sure of this information? Arbil is to the NE of Tikrit. Tikrit has good roads to Samarra, 20 mi.s to the south.
