Good morning Pro ((HUGS))

A busy day here so this will be a quick hello.
I’m doing a book event at our local annual ArtFest on Saturday from 11 - 4ish. Then meeting Mr. Beachy at a local pizza joint (a Greek place no less) for dinner.

Have a simply strawberrlicious time this weekend at the festival.

You’re right. It does look a little dicey. There was some wind damage West of Ada from the storms 145 customers in Ada are without power right now. :-(

We had lots of air raid drills because we were very close to the Watertown (MA) Arsenal, which operated 24 hours a day. It’s windows had all been painted black.

I still remember the warden for our street making sure no light shone through when the sirens were blaring.

Almost seems like yesterday.

We lived in a small town in Texas...not close to the coast. but I saw blacked out windows on a war supply factory on the very rare trips to see my elderly grandparents. Gas rationing kept us healthy walking or biking.

The gas rationing comment struck a chord. My Mom (your age) told stories of life on the farm then. Grandpa’s tractor was up on blocks because of the rubber rationing. He used mules for plowing.

He went up to the draft board in Springfield (OH) and tried to enlist. The board chairman, who knew Grandpa, told him to go home and take care of his 4 girls.

“The board chairman, who knew Grandpa, told him to go home and take care of his 4 girls.”

He sounds like quite a guy.:-)

I can still remember the talk of the shortages-coffee,meat,butter,sugar,silk stockings, gasoline, cigarettes and more. My grandmother used to bake what she called “War Cake”.

My brother contracted Scarlet Fever and we were quarantined because of a shortage of hospital beds. My mother couldn’t even work so neighbors and relatives took up collections to help out. (My father had died in 1938).

Tough times, but compared to what was going on in much of the world we were lucky.
