WILMINGTON, Del. - (AP) -- Highway engineers say a crucial bridge on the Eastern Seaboard's interstate highway system could imperil drivers if traffic is allowed back on it.
The bridge, near Wilmington, Delaware, was closed Monday when its support pillars were found to be tilting. The Interstate 495 bridge won't reopen anytime soon, highway officials said Tuesday, and the 90,000 vehicles that cross it every day are being diverted onto the main north highway, I-95, further overloading one of the most crowded arteries in America.

Combined General and Maryland “Freak State” PING! and a DANG! as well.
Were they tilting left or right?
1st reaction from a Benghazi Barry/Cloward/Piven Strategy Overloaded Citizen?
What can they do NEXT to make a middle class working American taxpayer SNAP?????
More money needed for infrastructure ping.
Funny. I watched a fire near or under that bridge from a high rise apt. i think it was christmas 2 years ago. i might have photos.
Depends on which direction you’re going.
This puts traffic on I-95 in major hurt. The bridge leads to the Jersey Turnpike. Next closest bridge across the Delaware is up by Philly [Camden].
Boy Howdy !!!
The Delaware Memorial Bridge leads to the Jersey Turnpike. The affected bridge takes I-495 across the Christiana River as part of a bypass around Wilmington. It does not lead to the Turnpike.
Oops, I meant the Christina River.
We can send Christie to you to help out.
The bridge is NOT on the I-295 route to New Jersey - Delaware Memorial Bridge. It is on I-495 which is a bypass around Wilmington, Delaware...along Delaware River, near the huge landfill.
That said, it will not affect any bridges to NJ - and there are 3 of them before you get to the Ben Franklin (Camden). The I-295 bridge to the NJ turnpike veers off of I-95 before I-495 begins.

Exactly.
I remember it well...traffic was a disaster for months...
I-95 traffic backed up from state line to state line, they are detouring I-495 traffic at Exit 2 into downtown Wilmington. On top of that, there is construction all over the place. On top of that, southbound I-95 traffic has messed up traffic patterns slowing traffic into PA.
All in all, should there be an evacuation, people will be trapped.
Gee, why wasn’t this a shovel ready stimulus project?
Good catch!
I remember that one well.
