GALVESTON, Texas — A man who voted absentee in Texas and Minnesota during the 2012 general election then touted his bogus balloting on Facebook has pleaded guilty. A judge in Galveston on Tuesday fined Richard Alan Collier $4,000 after he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor violation of Texas election law. Collier, who pleaded guilty to attempt to commit illegal voting, claimed residence in both states when seeking absentee ballots for the November 2012 election. Authorities say Collier then voted in Anoka (uh-NOH'-kuh) County, Minnesota, and in Galveston County. Prosecutors in Galveston say a tip that Collier posted a Facebook message about voting twice led to an investigation and documents examined from both counties.

Wanna bet he'll be back just in time to vote for Al Franken this fall?

If we had clean elections, there would be far fewer Democrats in office. What a blessing that would be to the nation!

I hate to suggest it....but when you come down to vote....you ought to present some kind of tax receipt and show you paid state taxes. When these guys vote twice...they are skipping out on some kind of state tax. That would be the first thing I’d fix about the system....dual voting....dual taxation. Real quick...things would get resolved.

Years ago it was common for snowbirds in AZ to claim they voted in their original state as well as in AZ. They firmly believed they should have a right to do so and there should be nothing wrong with it- their justification was the issues/local politics were important to them in both places. I asked one if they voted twice for President too and he glared at me and walked away. We have had wholesale voter fraud in this country for a very long time and many doing it are folks most would not likely suspect.

No. There are people who own property in more than one state. They should NOT get to vote twice just because they pay property taxes in more than one place

If you don’t pay taxes or accept any kind of government handout you have no business voting.

This is why the leftist meme saying "there is no evidence of voter fraud" is so stupid.

There's no effective method in place to enforce voting laws. It's like turning your back on a herd of elephants in Manhattan and claiming there's nothing unusual because you can't see it.

There is little or no coordination among states to detect duplicate voting. This guy would have never been caught if he hadn't boasted about it on Facebook.

I think the real voting fraud is committed by poll workers, who churn out votes for their candidates after polls close and they know who didn't show up to vote. I fear that even voter ID won't stop them, unless we can somehow confirm an ID was actually shown.

“always amused the AP can tell us everything about them except how they voted.”

That can only mean that he voted for Obama.

I don’t know of any other states like MN that let you “vouch” for up to 13 people just base on you saying, “Oh yeah, I know them-they live around here.”

Not enough. I own land in two states.

I’ve always felt citizens that were financially invested in this country should vote. This does not include those on SNAP, TANF, EITC, WICs, SECTION 8 and the like as well has having paid NET state and federal taxes.

...and the only reason we know about it is because the guy is an idiot.

No evidence of voter fraud? Sure, but how can there be when we don’t require evidence of ID’s to enforce the 1 person 1 vote rule of law? You can’t prove something without evidence and the Dems want to keep it that way.

Actually, they absolutely should be able to vote for local elections in both (or multiple) places. They just need to be restricted to voting in each specific race once.

Edit: Of course, that needs to be worded better, as a vote for President is technically a local vote for a slate of electors, and that isn’t what I would support, but you get my drift, I hope.

At the bottom of the CA ballot I cast yesterday was the single sentence "voting twice is a felony".

Tip of the iceberg. In the land of 10,000 colleges with out-of-state students who vote both home and away, I’m convinced that if the elections were during the summer and not during the school year, the democrats would be in big trouble.

I actually think that is a big problem.

No taxation without representation is supposed to be the law of the land. If you own property in two or more voting jurisdictions you should be able to vote on local issue where your property is whether you live there or not. You pay property taxes there and should have a say.

I bet you could count on one hand all the felons in jail for voting twice.
