Senate Democrats who trumpeted Bergdahl deal go silent

I want you to go over to The Weekly Standard for John McCormack’s and Mike Warren’s work on this, but here’s a taste:

“You know, I think, um, let me hold off on that,” said Bernie Sanders of Vermont.

“All I’ve heard is what I’ve read in the press,” said Vermont’s senior senator Pat Leahy.

Sen. Claire McCaskill, who crowed about the deal on the Sunday shows, is now very interested in the intel briefing she’s to receive tomorrow. That’d be the briefing she should have gotten some 32 days before she went on the Sunday shows to make grand pronouncements with no information. #YesAllWomen have to go on national news shows to laud their male party bosses’ grand accomplishments with incomplete and willfully inaccurate information, apparently.

As of now, The Reid stands alone in his continued vocal support of the Bergdahl deal.

Some on the Left have gone from cheering Bergdahl’s return as the homecoming of a hero to saying his questionable behavior at the time of his disappearance shouldn’t be at issue. Sure, I argued on “The O’Reilly Factor” last night that Bergdahl is entitled to a trial under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and he should go through a normal process to determine his status. Meanwhile, the men who served with him are entitled to voice their concerns (despite their non-disclosure agreements) and point to evidence for their claims.

But, as Phil Klein notes, it’s hard to argue Bergdahl’s status and actions shouldn’t matter to Americans when his status and actions as a hero were integral to the White House pitch for this deal. If Bergdahl’s not a hero, there’s far less political cover to get rid of the Taliban Five, which Allahpundit suspects was the whole point of this endeavor.

“Regardless of circumstances, whatever those circumstances may turn out to be, we still get an American prisoner back,” Obama said. “Period. Full stop. We don’t condition that.” Now, it’s fair to argue that whether the prisoner exchange was a good deal or not is a separate issue from whether Bergdahl was a deserter. In other words, there’s a case for bringing him back and handling evidence of desertion under American laws and procedures rather than simply letting him rot in the custody of the Taliban.

However, the argument that the nature of his service is irrelevant to the discussion was made less convincing because the White House initially attempted to turn Bergdahl’s release into a public relations victory and presented Bergdahl to the American people as a national hero.

On the bright side, at least maybe we’ve finally found something Obama knew about before the media told him about it?

They were for the release, before they were against it.

Right - got drunk, went to bed and pulled the covers over their heads until next week.

They are quiet because they have read the CIA report and found out that Bergdahl is a deserter.

This is arguably the most heinous act of Treason in the history of the Republic.

Treason being defined as "a violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or to one's state".

The release of the enemy's high command in a sham exchange for an enemy sympathizer and collaborator over the objections the security apparatus of the USA displays a basic lack of allegiance by the POTUS to the United States of America.

All 57 of them.

Families of the dead who searched for this dirtbag, what about the soldiers who no doubt died capturing those 5 terrorists? Was their blood spilled to release this clown?

Never mind the deserter.

What about these scumbags the marxist in chief released?

These 5 were named by the Taliban as the ones they wanted out of GB.

This is like releasing Hess, Goering, Borrman, Streicher and Jodl instead of trying them at Nuremberg.

These 5 will topple Karzai's governmemnt with 18 months and the Black TALIBAN flag will once again fly over Kabul.

THIS ACT IS INDEFENSIBLE HIGH TREASON.

Those men can send men here or come here themselves.

Sounds like even DiFi is clamming up. This one is radioactive at this point. It was supposed to supplant the VA scandal in the media and it has, but not quite in the way that the 0bama team hoped. Forcing the witnesses to sign NDAs didn't help - too much Benghazi in that one - and sequestering the principal in a hospital because he's too "fragile" to actually be asked questions about the last five years before the spinmeisters have him properly rehearsed didn't help either. Stiffing the Senate oversight committee really didn't help.

They're stuck with this one and they'll brazen it out. My God, and they pretend not to know why we hate them.

They really thought they had a good story with this one.

Amazing.

Yeah, and they're so much smarter than we ordinary taxpayers are.

“They’re stuck with this one and they’ll brazen it out. My God, and they pretend not to know why we hate them.”

What makes them so detestable is that a large part of the electorate loves them and keeps voting for them. It’s absolutely abhorent, amazing and disgusting to see so many arrogant, adolescent junior-high-schoolers prancing and preening about.

IMHO

Bergdahl’s unit was circled up and defensive wire was put out. That means the unit could be attacked from any direction. When a unit has to defend a 360 degree perimeter, every rifle is critically important. The enemy watches and probes to find an undefended part of the perimeter. Then, they can just sneak in and shoot the rest of the American Soldiers in the back.

That’s why Bergdahl’s fellow Soldiers are furious. Bergdahl knowingly took off and left them open to slaughter. This isn’t about some political game. This was life and death stuff. He didn’t care about his fellow American Soldiers. He didn’t care if they were slaughtered. Those Soldiers trusted Bergdahl to be there to do his duty to make sure they didn’t get killed, and he just walked off.

Depending on how this all plays out here in America, Bergdahl may end up doing an assisted suicide thingy.

Put yourself in the boots of the Soldiers in Bergdahl’s unit.

The enemy could be anywhere around you. One of ours is missing. These guys don’t mind sawing your head off while you’re alive. S**t! Are we sure we aren’t missing anyone else? Does this mean an attack is coming? What the hell do we do if they start torturing Bergdahl and we hear his screams? Do I let higher know? What if he’s just taking a leak and I call in a report of a missing Soldier? What if he tells them our weaknesses? Do we send out a patrol? What if this is just part of an ambush?

Oh yeah. He screwed his buddies.

This goes to show how the Democrats aren’t even paying attention. What else can their minds be on aside from the ‘get reelected. Do they really all back Obama 100% as a match to their vision of what Government should be like? I think some are going to turn. Obama’s last two years are going to be miserable for everybody. — which is exactly what impeachment is for.
