Family lawyer says they warned police. Police interviewed him and said he was a nice boy.

If true, very incompetent cops.

Here’s a link to an interview of the murderer’s atheist, God-hating father. Gee, I wonder why the kid had no morals or direction?

Lock up the mentally ill. It is easy to know the criteria, because anyone who is prescribed with anti-psychotics has been proven to be unfit in the society. They needs to be LOCKED UP until they are no longer in need of those drugs (for most, it is life long).

These people cannot be reasoned with and a free society suffers from their derangement.

Before you come down on the cops, it would be a good idea to ask yourself what exactly they are supposed to do in a case like this. If you have an adult who has not committed a crime and hasn't given a clear, unambiguous threat that puts someone in imminent danger, then the police don't have the legal authority to do anything with him.

This isn't a law enforcement problem. It's one of the defining characteristics of a free nation.

Lock up the mentally ill.

Can't. States don't have the money and the ACLU says its unfair that they're locked up.

So...they roam the streets.

Now that’s a whole different angle to this (see my previous post). I would fully agree with that.

Families should be able to do more to have a family member hospitalized or something.

Two cases near me in the last couple of years where families had unsuccessfully tried to have their sons involuntarily hospitalized. One killed a neighbor with a hammer and cut her head off because she was “emanating rays” at him. The other eviscerated his own mother because the demons were inside her.

That’s exactly why the first thing any totalitarian government usually does in tough economic times is make the mentally ill disappear.

I agree. Once you’ve been on anti-psychotics, like lithium, you aren’t EVER going to be normal again.

This isn’t like anyone is advocating for the detention of a man who refuses to brush his teeth in the morning. We’re talking about folks that have PROVEN to be permanently unstable.

It is possible to have someone committed on a 72 hour psych hold (A 5150). I had to do it twice on a roommate.

One other thing, we let sociopaths run free, hold office, join law enforcement and so forth and in my opinion, sociopaths are worse then psychotics!!

If the family tipped off the cops weeks ago good on them.
They just sheltered themselves from liability too.

What I can’t understand is why the media has no interest in the type of firearm used, that I have seen, at least.

>> Police interviewed him and said he was a nice boy.

Do we WANT aggressive profiling or do we NOT WANT aggressive profiling?

Remember the NJ mom that regrettably called state troopers regarding a gun being transported in her son’s car. The son was thrown in jail for no good reason.

I don’t think mental illness gets the attention it deserves, but how a reasonable and adequate system would function is beyond my imagination.
