Despite flak, polls show UKIP on track to top Europe vote

(Reuters) - The UKIP party will likely top European elections on Thursday or come a close second, according to opinion polls that suggest a barrage of criticism accusing it of racial slurs and bigotry has failed to put off voters.

All three of Britain's three main political parties have strongly criticised the UK Independence Party (UKIP), which wants Britain to leave the European Union and to impose much tougher immigration controls, prompting the party to take out an advert in a national newspaper to assert that it is not racist.

Political earthquake brewing.......the onslaught from the establishment has been relentless and would make Stalin blush.

But it seems it hasn't worked.

Sky News

has live coverage for those interested. Hopefully the start of something so drastically needed here. Hell of a long way to go.

The anti Farage crowd isn’t pulling any punches on twitter.

I know its going to be big because the BBC has really cranked up their anti-UKIP propaganda.

Me too, because a UKIP victory there, will have huge ramifications here, as well.

The UKIP provides the blueprint for the Tea Party.

It would be interesting if UKIP won, but I don’t think that the lessons would necessarily translate to conservatives here in the states. Mr. Farage is an impeccable orator, and very quick on his feet. I see very few politicians in the US that could match that. Also, the British media for all their faults is a lot more diverse in their views and fairer in their coverage of political candidates who don’t share their views.

Damn, sounds like the establishment in Britain hates it when they have competition.

A shame UKIP has to waste money saying they're not racist. I hope they have some members who are non-white who speak out...do they have a Herman Cain, or a Star Parker, who can let everyone know patriots come in all colors? I think with a small population like Britain, it might have a stronger effect than here in America.

thoughts?

Well then, we’ll just have to find a US version of Mr. Farage.

Frankly, we need someone like that to progress. Every political movement needs a leader.

First they ignore you.
Then they laugh at you.
Then they fight you.
Then you win.

Daniel Hannan tweet

Now at the count in Basingstoke. It has been a long day and, to deal plainly, I fear it will not be our best result.

For those of us in the states, Hannan's bad day is actually a good day.

Hannan’s party had a chance to be a great heir to Thatcher’s legacy. They blew it. Cameron is terrible.

Too bad for the Conservative Party...but the UKIP is providing an alternative, and they ought to live up to their potential.

Maybe we need a USIP Party —a political arm of the Tea Party. The Constutional party linking with the American Independent party is the closest thing we have on the ballot today. Can you say—Liberty Party? UKIP is showing us the way...

You assure me that this is a good thing.

So, when you're done with Nigel, can you ship 'im over 'ere? Since we already have a non-natural-born-citizen as _resident, we should be able to do it again with an eminently more qualified candidate... ;-)

That’s precisely what I propose, and hire the folks who built the UKIP to handle strategy.

I hope UKIP hasn’t been running defensive “we are not racists” ads.
