Utah Lawmaker: Bring Back Firing Squad Executions
ABC News ^ | May 17, 2014 | By MICHELLE L. PRICE Associated Press

In the wake of a botched lethal injection in Oklahoma last month, a Utah lawmaker says he believes a firing squad is a more humane form of execution. And he plans to bring back that option for criminals sentenced to death in his state.

Rep. Paul Ray, a Republican from the northern Utah city of Clearfield, plans to introduce his proposal during Utah's next legislative session in January. Lawmakers in Wyoming and Missouri floated similar ideas this year, but both efforts stalled. Ray, however, may succeed. Utah already has a tradition of execution by firing squad, with five police officers using .30-caliber Winchester rifles to execute Ronnie Lee Gardner in 2010, the last execution by rifle to be held in the state.

I’m all in favor of the firing squad, for several reasons.

It has already been approved of as a means of execution, by the US Supreme Court.

It is very inexpensive, and not prone to error, nor is it dependent on hard to obtain chemicals. It would be terribly hard to nit-pick legally.

Now this being said, all should realize that the firing squad is the legal equivalent of lethal self defense.

Zimmerman was the de facto prosecutor, judge, jury and executioner of Martin. There were no endless appeals, no decades in prison. As such, he saved the state a million dollars for every decade Martin would have spent in prison.

And lethal self defense gives the public a way to have swift justice when the courts have failed to give it to them.

Yes, the firing squad should be extensively used and expeditiously.

“... had no desire to impose their own theology on those not of their faith ...” Um, you’re not as familiar with Joe Smith’s religion as you claim. Your assertion is not supported by the History of Smithinaism/Mormonism, so your screed is ... hollow.

I know a 100% effective, painless, quick, cheap, and bloodless method that uses readily available materials and poses no danger to witnesses or bystanders.

I'll be damned if I'd give it to this government!

My son looked over my shoulder and said “A shower?”

I believe that if God had a favorite sect, it would probably come down to one of these three for reasons which would make a very long thread.

Should you ever write such a thread, ping me please?

It would be better and more entertaining to create an “Escape from Detroit.”. Wall off the city and the condemned has two options. Fend for yourself within the walls or take a bullet to the head immediately.

Have cameras throughout the city and once a month show “Real World Detroit.”

The history of Utah Territory and the State shows my assertion is largely correct. Yes, they will try very hard to convert you. I lived among them once and I know. But they did nothing to prevent me from drinking my beer or anything of the sort.

But there is a huge difference from trying to convert you to using the force of law to impose religion in the manner which the left constantly does with their religious dogmas.

If the more numerous sects of Christianity were even half as diligent as the Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses in trying to convert people, we wouldn't have a default State Religion of the Left which rigidly enforces their dogmas under the color of law.

I’m 68, almost 69. My grandfather on my mother’s side used to say that about ‘those damned hippies’. Your son is wise beyond his years.

Except your grandfather probably wasn’t thinking about Zyklon-B showers.

Yes. He is wise. He is achingly aware of what a government out of control can do to its own citizens.
