I like my idea of digging a sea-level ship canal from Brownsville, Texas, to San Diego, California, following the US-Mexico border. Both more practical and more feasible than anything that is suggested in this highly speculative projection.

But we do it all the time. We plow fields, plant crops where they wouldn’t have grown naturally. Cut down trees, and build buildings instead of living in natural caves.

The only difference here is the scale. That and the fact that we only have one solar system to play with and it happens to be the one we live in.
