Netanyahu 'Desperate to Block Rivlin Presidency'

Political analysts say Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyhau is making desperate maneuvers to try and prevent MK Reuven Rivlin (Likud-Beytenu) from being elected president in the coming weeks. The Knesset began its summer session Monday, a session that will focus on the process of electing a president, as Shimon Peres's term nears its end.

Peres's term ends in July, and a successor is to be elected by the Knesset between 30 and 90 days before then.

Netanyahu reportedly is still trying to bring about a six-month postponement of the election, after failing to do so until now. Sources close to him said that he seeks to use the time to legislate a change in Israel's system of government and election.

The legislation will reportedly be one of three options: the first, completely cancelling the post of president; the second, turning the entire system of government into a presidential system, or (third), changing the law so that after parliamentary elections, the largest Knesset faction is tasked with creating a government, thus doing away with the current system, in which the president has discretion to task whichever party he wishes with forming a coalition government.

Rivlin is looking attractive. Believe I once met him. Descendant of one of the original seven founders of Nahalat Shiv'ah neighborhood in Jerusalem, circa 1861. Good riddance to Peres. One day soon, good riddance to Bibi.

I like Bibi. This guy wants to include west bank Palestinians into one big ol’ Israel. Freaking retard.

So do I, as an option they can apply for, just as it already is in Jerusalem. Bibi bulldozed the homes of friends of mine.

Interesting. Were they settlers in an area they knew not to build in? Or Palestinians doing bad things?

Either way, bringing in the Palestinians is an epic mistake. They breed like flies, carry the moslem mental infection, and will destroy that wonderful place.

Go Bibi.

Actually Jewish women are having more children than Muslim ones. But I agree with the mental infection thing!

Lately I have been very impressed by Naphtali Bennett (until now I was a Bibi follower). I wonder if Rivlin would charge Bennet with forming the next government.

Despite all they could do, they couldn’t destroy this beautiful place, and many of them do not have their hearts in it. Their birth rate goes down as their incomes go up. Jerusalem Arabs have had the option to obtain Israeli citizenship since 1967, but only recently have their applications spiked, because they are scared of being stuck in the travesty of a Palestinian state that the US, EU, UN, and divers other cretinous entities insist on pushing. Pride will keep them from exercising the citizenship option, and fear of what the neighbors will think.
