SEVASTOPOL, Crimea (AP) — President Vladimir Putin has hailed Crimea's incorporation into Russia. Putin made a speech Friday in the city of Sevastopol on his first trip to the Black Sea peninsula since Russia annexed it from Ukraine in March. Putin watched a parade of Russian navy ships and a flyby of Russian aircraft marking the Victory Day commemorating the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II. Ukraine has condemned Putin's visit as trampling on international law.

The poster said the western media and others were forgetting who liberated Ukraine from the Nazis.

I simply responded pointing out that but the "western media" and Russia have "forgotten" and denied the facts about the Holodomor for years.

I lay the blame for Holodomor mostly on Stalin and the Bolsheviks. I don’t think presently Russia has any intention of repeating the policies of the 1930’s that led to mass starvation.

You posted that folks were not giving credit to Stalin and the Bolcheviks for liberating Ukraine from the Nazis.

I posted that folks also remember Stalin and the Bolcheviks for the Holodomor and communism.

Many ethnic Russians also suffered under communism.

Of course.

But it's interesting to note that some ethnic Russian protesters in Crimea and E. Ukraine have used pictures/flags/statues/symbols of Stalin, Lenin and the hammer and sickle.

Meanwhile we have posters here who post photos of Bandera and Nazi symbols in the maiden protests while they neglect to show the photos of Stalin, Lenin and the hammer and sickle in the pro Russian Crimea and E. Ukraine protests.

Looks like he's gonna defeat the Nazi's in Ukraine also.

Yeah, right the former KGB Colonel is the great liberator. How many Nazis are in the Ukraine? How many Nazis are there in the US?

You need to get better informed about the history of NATO and its role in containing the Soviet Union. NATO played a major role in the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Our threat is not in Sevastopol. I have been there, and Sevastopol is fine for Russia. Sevastopol is more Russian than Ukraine. Russians already own the most important real estate in Crimea, private, as well as military. When a hostile government emerged in Kiev, the Russian response was predictable.

The Ukranians in the continental part of the country need to comprehend that they are on the doorstep of a world power - do not poke the bear into a rage. Flying over Ukraine, I could see that it is excellent tank country. Kiev needs to tone it down and calm down.

Putin does not have agents on FR the way some other government does. This is one of freedom’s last redoubts.

I’ve never been so embarrassed for Free Republic, to see people defend an invading Russian army, against a free and sovereign nation.

Some people only pay lip service to freedom. When it comes to actual freedom, they support invading forces.

Go figure...

I’m curious DO, how many billions of US taxpayer dollars would you commit to defending Ukraine’s ‘freedom’?

I don’t believe we should spend any money to defend the Ukraine. It sure does bother me to see people acting as if Putin is the savior in this mess though.
