Catholic Archbishop: No Guns in My Churches
Newsmax ^ | 4/30/14 | cathy Burke

Responding to Georgia's new "guns everywhere" law, Archbishop Wilton Gregory of Atlanta has pledged to keep guns out of Catholic churches, schools and other institutions.

...

"Before this legislation takes effect in July, I will officially restrict the presence of weapons in our Catholic institutions except for those carried by the people that civic authorities have designated and trained to protect and guard us, and those who are duly authorized by law and military officials," Gregory wrote.

...

Georgia has always banned licensed weapons in churches, but the new legislation drops the penalty to a $100 fine and the legal charge to a misdemeanor

...

"The last thing we need is more firearms in public places, especially in those places frequented by children and the vulnerable," Gregory wrote.

...

"The version of gun control that passed really offers churches no real protection, other than a fine for those licensed holders who might bring a weapon," Georgia Catholic Conference head Frank Mulcahy told the National Catholic Reporter.

...

"In this nation of ours, they have seldom been the locations where violence has disrupted the otherwise peaceful atmosphere," he added. "Yet even those occasions -- rare as they may be -- are not sufficient reasons to allow people to bring more weapons into God's house."

He charged that the new law "de facto makes firearms more available in places where they may allow violence to escalate."

Note picture of gun free zone

Ol Wilton is coming to resemble Dee Revin Al more and more

"The last thing we need is more firearms in public places, especially in those places frequented by children and the vulnerable," Gregory wrote. Guess he didn't realize that FedEx is a free fire for criminal gun free zone

The persistent stupidity and militant ignorance of gun prohibitors never ceases to amaze me. Have they totally lost their ability reason (if they ever had it).

With the exception of reproduction issues the Catholic hierarchy's official stance on most social issues is a hard left version of the Democratic party's.

Under First Amendment principles, I would have to say that he does have the right to do this.

If the State cannot tell a church to purchase birth control, it can’t tell one it must allow guns.

As if we were ever in doubt of the actions of the Catholic Church on this topic.

Wilton Gregory can suck it. Let’s see how his No-gun policy reflects in the collection plate.

Who knows? Drop offs in contributions may take his mind away from that cute little altar boy with the wavy hair.

As a GFL holder, I say to the Archibishop:

You are welcome. We took the choice from the hands of politicians and gave it back to you.

You are welcome.

Under the law as written he has the right to do this. It's just a monumentally stupid thing to do.

So the police can’t come into a Catholic church.

I don't think Gregory was ever in to pediphilia personally. I do suspect him of helping cover up and shuffle the guilty priests around.

I had to excerpt the article. Part of what I cut out says that Ol Wilton wants armed JBTs in the church, just not us peasants

With all due respect, "and those who are duly authorized by law" includes most every adult citizen that isn't a felon.

I’ve told my parishoners who concealed carry that I’m more than happy to have them carry.

Nor did I hang up the denomination’s gun free poster.

Why advertise to shooters?

He wouldn’t like my church. And I would carry no matter what he said, concealed means concealed doofus.

“civic authorities have designated and trained to protect and guard us”

Now that is funny right there. I guess the people at Fedex forgot to call them. We had an incident Tuesday here in Austin area where a fired employee went back to a job site and confronted his old boss. After words and slapping the bosses phone out of his hand trying to call 911 the ex-employee pulled a piece and shot boss in leg. Boss (chl holder) pulled his and center massed the ex-employee. Bad news employee lived. You won’t see this story on national news.

OK, Archbishop Gregory, the next time some lunatic attacks you or breaks into the church, you pray for him and see how that goes. Maybe God will protect you.

Dear Archbishop,
please rethink this. please.

setting up your parishioners as (highly-visible) sitting ducks for every dangerous nut case in Georgia .... not wise...sir. (The rest of us carry arms because they are good protection for ourselves and others we encounter, including especially fellow parishioners... the “official governmental” constabulary you so fondly cite... cannot possibly protect all of us... indeed, they often refer to themselves as the “official clean-up and report-writing crew”...explaining why good human beings were turned into corpses...).

please reconsider.
Thank you.

ps: a second request if we may please Sir, your statement makes it sound like you have a whole lot more faith in Caesar and his Legions than you do in God (or even your parishioners). Please clarify... Thank you

I agree. People should tell this idiot to pound salt and embrace a church that doesn’t demand it’s parishioners to be victims.
