Maryland dealer, under pressure from gun-rights activists, drops plan to sell smart gun

A Rockville gun store owner who said he would sell the nation’s first smart gun — even after a California gun store removed the weapon from its shelves to placate angry gun-rights activists — backed down late Thursday night after enduring a day of protests and death threats.

Andy Raymond, the co-owner of Engage Armament, a store known for its custom assault rifles, had said earlier this week that offering the Armatix iP1 handgun was a “really tough decision” after what happened to the Oak Tree Gun Club near Los Angeles. Oak Tree was lambasted by gun owners and National Rifle Association members who fear the new technology will be mandated and will encroach on Second Amendment rights.

I’m sure he got “death threats” for saying he was going to sell “smart guns”. ROTFL! Yeah! Right!

There’s a gun store in Rockville? Who knew?

Directly from the

http://www.armatix.de/TRS.781.0.html?&L=1

website:

"The gun only functions if you are recognized and on target.

If you are aiming away from the target area, the pistol is immediately deactivated.

No misuse against people or objects around you.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So -- you just have to train your attackers to wear green stickers on their vital areas?
Look at the target: if that is typical grouping, the piece of cr@p is dangerously inaccurate...
And, it's only a .22...
What a deal!
I notice it only allows the shooter to shoot dark objects.
Is there a not-so-subtle message being sent?
It’s not a terribly good store, so I would have been happy about boycotting them forever if they sold this monstrosity. If any store, website, or company sells, stocks, lists, or manufactures a “smart gun”, I will permanently boycott them, and I let the stores where I shop know that.
Smart gun sales anywhere in US risk triggering smart gun law in New Jersey.
Nanny State PING!
Indeed. I, a non-gun-user, got a better grouping trying out a Ruger Mini-14 carbine.
Never been in it but I have a nagging feeling that a gun shop in MD has ‘UC’ tracking the people coming in - much like some states have ‘UC’ sitting around and taking pictures of ‘Porn Shops’.
That said, do you really believe — or even think- that the guy is telling the truth about the ‘death threats’?
Maybe the gun grabbers but most gun owners I am associated with wouldn’t even mutter a threat in somewhat ‘jest’.
Of course not. I didn't take that claim seriously enough to comment. Just as almost all the racial "hate crimes" that make the news are faked, I assumed the "threats" were faked too and didn't pay attention to that nonsense.
Likewise...(Granted- I made a query about it)
When I first heard it the other day, I automatically went to ‘eye roll’ reflex, with shake of head followed by WTF???
Would venture to guess that is why we call them ‘Publicity Whores’.
Gun owners understand from the beginning that certain kinds of "jokes" will result in the cops showing up and taking your guns away.
In my college years, I owned t-shirts with slogans like "Kill them all, let God sort them out". Once becoming a gun owner, all such shirts were gotten rid of.
Yes, the greater majority of responsible gun owners are in that mind set.
(My Paranoia) tells me that in neighboring DC and MD plus points North, my VA VN Vet tags, pick up truck and flag etc decals (don’t tread on me) on back glass virtually put a ‘target’ on my back.
I don’t mind the ‘thugs’ recognizing the probability but am sure it won’t be long until enough LEO types are in the mind to stop someone such as me just to ‘check it out’.
It does make me a much safer driver in the areas that are not ‘gun friendly’.
But the way things are going, ‘probable cause’ will become “Because I wanted to”.
