She’s back: Mia Love clinches the Republican nomination in Utah’s 4th

Former Republican mayor of Saratoga Springs Mia Love didn’t waste much time after losing to incumbent Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson by fewer than 800 votes in 2012 to announce that she planned to try, try again to represent Utah’s 4th Congressional district, and then in December, Matheson announced that he was retiring from the seat. I missed this over the weekend, but Love did indeed secure the Republican nomination on Saturday — and since she’ll now be facing a non-incumbent in a district Romney took by a 37-point margin in 2012, the GOP is feeling pretty jazzed about her prospects. Via The Hill:

Rising GOP star Mia Love handily secured the Republican nominee Saturday to replace retiring Rep. Jim Matheson’s (D-Utah).

The former Saratoga Springs, Utah, mayor raked in more than 78 percent of the vote at the party’s nominating convention, while businessman Bob Fuehr received just about 22 percent, according to multiple reports. The victory makes her one step closer to becoming the first black female Republican ever elected to Congress.

Now, she will face off against Democrat Doug Owens, a Salt Lake City attorney who garnered 98 percent of his party’s support at his own party’s convention.

Love quickly became a party favorite after her 2012 Republican National Convention speech captured national attention. In the speech, she talked about her parents’ immigration to the U.S. from Haiti, and attacked President Obama for policies that she said failed to improve the country.

We really need to make sure she’s elected this time! A wonderful, principled person who would do well in Washington DC.

How do the liberals handle a Republican black women? With this whole war on women meme, and the ongoing liberal article of faith that the GOP are racists, how do they deal with a black Republican woman candidate for office???? One who will have a high national profile if elected???

And, for those who like to gossip about private lives, I understand she is married to a white man. OMG, the black community disses black women who get involved with white men. It’s okay with blacks for black men to be involved with white women, but not vice versa. Just saying.

I agree. And I'm not one of those "equal opportunity" conservatives who gushes over the "clean, articulate black" person to prove how with it I am in the race game.

She's the real deal.

I will vote for people who share my viewpoints. Blacks are included in that. I would be happy to vote for Ben Carson or Mia Love.

I find conservatives are the ones that actually abide by the principle of judging by the content of one’s character...liberals divide and subjugate based on tangible personal attributes...

The usual way. They will just smear her and call her names like Aunt Jemima or Oreo.

Is Cruz/Love in 2016 premature?

I think Love needs more national exposure.

I’d go with Walker/Cruz or vice versa...

I don’t think it’s OK with blacks for black men to be involved with white women either. I’ve read a lot of criticism from black women on this.

If you support Ben Carson’s view on guns you are worse than a racist.

Oh believe it. I have a black son in law and a VERY white/blond daughter.

The utter hate they get from black women is beyond what most people can imagine. There is the whole ‘you takin’ our men’ dynamic, added to the regular ‘hate whitey’ thing. In the real world, every case of actual racism they have encountered has been from blacks and almost exclusively, black women. Online, facebook or whatever social media situations usually ends up with black women going full ‘African Queen Syndrome’ on them.

She says it’s east to tell what’s coming. Most normal, working/educated black women are fine. It’s the liberal ‘Black Studies” eternal student types and the welfare/12 kids of different fathers types that are the ones to watch for.

Love would not be eligible to move into the presidency if necessary.

I would go with any combination of Walker/Cruz/Rand.

I would not even mind Christy only because he would do well against Hillary in debate. But I think he is not conservative enough.
