U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk says he'll now campaign for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Jim Oberweis, weeks after saying he wouldn't actively campaign for the dairy magnate.
Last month, Kirk said he'd support Oberweis, but wouldn't campaign with the state senator from Sugar Grove so he could protect his relationship with Sen. Dick Durbin, a Chicago Democrat.
But during a stop in Quincy on Tuesday, Kirk told the Illinois Radio Network (http://bit.ly/1eIrtRF ) he will campaign for Oberweis after all.

Don't get me wrong. I would really love to see Oberweis win...
Illinois FREEPers, do you have any idea?
My bet is he was outside of Cook County when he said it.
Kirk seems to forget that Illinois is more than just the Chicago area.
Did oberweis win the nomination? He’ll lose. The combine will make sure of that.
Yeah. Oberweis has run for office six times here - for whatever office was open, and finally won the IL Senate his sixth time around. Not many like him as he flip-flops.
He’s polling at just over 16% against Durbin and has little chance of winning so it’s not a lot of skin off Kirk’s back to campaign for him.
Furthermore, as Kirk is pretty much hated outside the Chicago area, his campaign will probably hurt Oberweis more than help him.
I saw a Rasmussen poll that had Oberweis at 37% with Dick Turban at 51%, and 10% undecided.
Plus the fact Durbin is one of the "Sainted Ones," idolized by the voters in their state, and if so desired, will remain in the House of Lords for life.
“Illinois FREEPers, do you have any idea?”
I support Jim Oberweis. He has evolved into a Traditional Family Values conservative. He is a proven businessman, who will stand strong on immigration and the Constitution. He also will protect Traditional Family Values.
I stand corrected. I was looking at an older poll. Durbin has this locked up though as a member of the Chicago machine. IL is a conservative state with one huge lib-fest city controlling the whole state.
