Police might be tracking you, but you can't see the records

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Onondaga County has 5.2 million records showing where drivers have been over the past year. But if you'd like to know what the county has on your travels, you're out of luck.

Police cars throughout the county are outfitted with special cameras -- license plate readers -- that take hundreds of pictures of license plates a minute. Those records, showing the plate and where it was photographed, are warehoused in the county's database and held for a year.

Onondaga County denied a Freedom of Information Law request from me for all records they had on my license plate.

The reason: Turning over those records would "reveal criminal investigative procedures and techniques."

*****

New York earlier this month announced it would dole out $550,270 for police departments across the state to purchase 27 more license plate readers.

Are there any decorative license plate covers that make your car look, ah, cool?

...such covers are illegal in NY and can result in both a ticket and probable cause to stop and, in some cases, search the vehicle.

Well, in this day and age, cameras can be very small and concealed. Photograph the cops without them knowing they’re being photographed.

If they see you with a camera, then you’re most likely screwed.

We the People had better make sure this does not happen in the USA. There comes a time when we stand up and stand FOR freedom and liberty...now that we know such threats to our freedom and liberty could happen in this country, be prepared to make sure that it doesn’t happen...

Automatically assume that ANY and ALL data that ANY government agency collects about you will be permanently stored, and cross referenced with other databases, solely for the purpose to be used against you at some point in time. That’s how totalitarian third world regimes operate, and we are already there, like it or not.

How’s the backyard gardening in Venezuela? Anyone doing that with seeds from storebought tomatoes or peppers or squash? Or even dried beans...

They're doing it in Texas as well. ALPR’s...automatic lic. plate readers. License plates with special reflectivity, water mark screen capture marks and character dividers to aid the computer to process.

When renewing your drivers license in the state of Texas, they make you place both your thumbs on readers and snap a digital image of your prints. You are also required to have your face digitally captured for future recognition technology.

Webs of cameras installed at every intersection, throughout meto areas to facilitate safety of citizens. Surveillance drones being deployed by Montgomery county, Texas sheriffs department to aid in law enforcement efforts.

Law enforcement has begun “no refusal” blood draws for folks suspected of driving impaired....are they collecting DNA as well? Bet’cha $50 bill it's a coming.

Inmates already being required to give DNA samples when arrested.

What does this mean? Bio-metrics being collected on citizens. Database collecting info on your whereabouts, your travels.

Big brother placing all this in place as well as uncle sugar tracking Credit card transactions, snooping on phone calls, web traffic.

Think America's not a police state? Think all this is tin-foil nutjob conspiracy tawk? Do the research. It's happening and moving forward with lightening speed.

Oh...let's not forget Obozo’s pledge. A civilian force, just as well equipped, just as well funded...Law enforcement agencies across this great land are gleefully accepting federal grants for advanced military grade vehicles, equipment and weaponry from DHS.

Open yo eyes boy’z and girl's.

And those pogroms just keep on coming

I mean really they essentially ‘classify’ this data as revealing techniques and procedures....since when can’t the citizenry see that from the local government????

Last year for a time period our left wing local government allowed a so called traffic tracking company to use a lot of electronic means to supposedly check on traffic patterns. The system apparently used cameras and checked on the gps units in cars and smart phones.

There was not a single complaint from the sheeple up here, because it was supposedly an enviro study.

Hi Nully,

Please remove me from your ping list? Yesterday was my 16th anniversary, and I was convinced I’m in a rut, so I’m leaving FR.

It’s been real *and* fun!

All those little podunkville PDs don't need military grade vehicles but 0 is handing them out like candy. We're long past hitting the reset button.

The only thing that REALLY works is a clear resin spray. You spray a coat or two on the front and back plates, and re-install them on your car. It will look NORMAL to the naked eye, but the camera sees only pure GLARE when a picture is taken. $25 per can. Google it on the internet.
