Former Supreme Court Justice: Gutting 2nd Amendment ‘A Moderate Proposal’

(CNSNews.com) - Former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, in his new book, recommends six rewrites to the U.S. Constitution. He would restrict gun ownership to militia members; ban the death penalty; and allow government to set "reasonable limits" on campaign financing, among other things.

But Stevens says he's no radical:

"I think every one of my proposals is a moderate proposal," Stevens told ABC's George Stephanopoulos in an interview that aired Sunday on ABC's "This Week."

One of Steven's proposals would add five words to the Second Amendment, which would then read: "...the right of the people to keep and bear arms, when serving in the militia, shall not be infringed."

The LIBS are tireless fighters and NEVER EVER give up. The GOP just does not know how to message and it doesn't help that LIBS own the media.

quote from the idiot, “...the right of the people to keep and bear arms, when serving in the militia, shall not be infringed.”

Doesn’t he realize that the people ARE the militia?

John Paul Stevens has always been a commie scumbag. I hope John Paul Jones kicks his butt in the afterlife.

What? They don’t ISSUE arms to those serving in the National Guard? News to me!

Or is JPS suggesting that we can bring our own?! Ah, excuse me LT, the USSC says that if I don’t like your CAR-4 that I can carry my Sprinfield Armory Mini-30 instead!

Seriously brain-addled if you ask me.

Actually, I rather like him saying this because of what it reveals about himself. I would love it if we had anyone on television with a brain and testicles:

"So Justice Stevens, it would require additional words to end the individual right guaranteed by the second amendment?

Since you voted AGAINST the individual right on numerous occasions, this clearly indicates that you were:

COMPLETELY UNQUALIFIED AND UNWORTY TO BE ON THE SUPREME COURT SINCE YOU KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THE CONSTITUTION GUARANTEED YET VOTED AGAINST IT ANYWAY!"

"Former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, in his new book, recommends six rewrites to the U.S. Constitution."

Sorry, JPS. We don't 'rewrite' the Constitution. We AMEND it, and it's not up to a single retired self-important jackass to do it. It's done through a defined process and ratified by the States.

Liberal dickweed...

I’d like to make a “moderate” proposal that all government employees and elected officials and judges spend alternating years in labor camps for every year they spend suckling at the government teat.

I suppose Justice Stevens would propose an addition to the First Amendment as well: "...but only when standing in a government-approved First Amendment zone."

But beyond that, Stevens does not realize (or maybe he does) that EVERY adult American was meant to be in the militia.

So we are all "serving" in the militia, all of the time. That makes his proposal moot.

The militia has been defined in the US law code for well over two hundred years.

“The LIBS are tireless fighters and NEVER EVER give up. The GOP just does not know how to message and it doesn’t help that LIBS own the media.”

Stevens was appointed to the Supreme Court by a Republican President - Gerald R. Ford.

Like Harry Blackman and David Souter more evidence electing Republicans President does not ensure judicial appointees will be conservative.

One of Steven’s proposals would add five words to the Second Amendment, which would then read: “...the right of the people to keep and bear arms, when serving in the militia, shall not be infringed.”

And Stevens also demonstrates that he has no idea what the precedents were, nor that he has read with any literacy the contents of the citations he presents.
