MOSCOW, April 21. /ITAR-TASS/. The man who earlier on Monday seized a subsidiary of Bank Zapadny in Belgorod, a city located 700 kilometers south of Moscow, has been detained, according to the press service of Russia's Interior Ministry.

The man will get back his 23 million rubles (about $639,000) from his bank account, head of regional police headquarters Viktor Pesterev has told ITAR-TASS.

The man has been detained, the press center of the Russian Interior Ministry reports.

Pesterev, who conducted negotiations with the man, explained that he had tried to withdraw his money on Sunday, but could not do so because of bank staffers’ sluggishness, while on Monday the bank’s license was revoked.

Pesterev said all his demands would be met, adding that there had been no hostage-taking at the bank [where there had been only three staffers], and the man voluntarily surrendered his gun.

An investigation brigade is working at the site of the incident.

I feel for the guy. Local bank goes bankrupt and he takes extreme action to get his money back. While that looks sure to happen, police took him into custody for holding up the bank and taking hostages. Just another day in Belgorod, Russia!
