Civilian Militia Remains at Bundy Ranch After Standoff Ends
ABC News ^ | April 19, 2014 | By Liz Fields

A group of armed militia and protesters, some sporting nametags reading "domestic terrorist," remain camped out on a cattle ranch in Nevada, where they have been purportedly defending the property since a tense showdown ended with the federal government last week.

A 20-year struggle between rancher Cliven Bundy and the Bureau of Land Management over decades of alleged illegal cattle grazing on public land ended last Sunday, with the government backing down from a controversial week-long cattle round-up.

The BLM defused the standoff, citing safety concerns for its employees and the protesters, some of whom were on horseback and others who were set up in sniper positions on the Interstate 15 overpass pointing military-style rifles at federal agents. Among the citizen army were dozens of women and children under the overpass who could have been caught in the line of any possible gunfire.

But many people who say they support Bundy said they felt the battle was far from over, as evidenced by some responses ABC News received on social media, after the BLM first announced on April 12 that it was withdrawing from the area and releasing the 380 cattle already collected as part of the round-up on an area of land half the size of Delaware state.

~~~~snip~~~~
"There are people out here who will sacrifice their lives and their fortunes and their sacred honor to defend them," said Jerry DeLemus from New Hampshire. "If someone points a gun at me, I'll definitely point my gun back."
The dispute has reignited debate over BLM practices, especially where it controls vast areas of land in the West. The issue of states' rights has long been disputed in Nevada, where more than 85 percent of land is controlled by federal mark, military and land agencies.
They better stay there forever. It ain’t over. I knew it as soon as they pulled out. It ain’t over. Just a diversionary tactic.
Grazing fees.....$1,000,000 for some greasewood bushes and dry grass. I think those grazing fees were uncalled for. The fees were supposed to be used for the benefit of the ranchers, maintaining roads, water wells etc. Apparently that stopped many decades ago and the federal government just continued collecting fees for what God provides.
Just like the Bundy Ranch, we could use some REINFORCEMENTS HERE in Chicago This week!
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3144274/posts
Chicago, IL – The head of the Illinois Minuteman Project and former Republican candidate for Congress, Rosanna Pulido, announced that her group, along with The Chicago MInutemen Project group and grassroots organizations, is holding a “SAVE THE AMERICAN WORKER RALLY” at 1:00 pm Tuesday, April 22, at the corner of Michigan and Van Buren Streets in downtown Chicago.
Pulido said the rally is being held to protest a gathering of well-heeled Republican politicians, lobbyists, and corporate CEOs pushing amnesty for illegal aliens at the nearby Chicago Club that same afternoon. She commented, “It is outrageous that these fat-cat Republican millionaires and corporate CEOs are lobbying for amnesty to give work visas to tens of millions of illegal aliens, when Chicago-area unemployment is 9 percent and twenty million Americans cannot find a job.”
Wasn’t just the fees. They were also cutting back on the size of herd they were “allowing” him to graze on the land using the (now proven to be not endangered) tortoise as an excuse. And that would have bankrupted him, put him out of business and drove him off his ranch and off the land which was their obvious intent. They did the exact same thing to 50 other ranchers on that range. Bundy is the last rancher standing and is standing up for his constitutional rights against government tyranny.
Bundy should be charging the BLM for his cattle’s efforts to collect and concentrate food and water to be widely distributed across the desert for the benefit of the indigenous Tortoises.
How thoughtful of the media (ABC government propagandists) to write about how benevolent and nice the BLM was to diffuse the situation by backing off (for now)...
Seems to me that I never heard about ANY of the “civilians showing up that were preparing to open fire on the BLM and its armed agents when they approached or gathered anywhere near those forces...
I could be wrong, there is a lot of mis-information floating around there on all of this...
But the negative track record still hangs on the necks of your government and its tendency to shoot and kill American citizens and ask questions, or better yet, sweep the truth under the rug afterwards...
Meanwhile (back in Gotham City /sarc) the usual politicians are beginning to come out from cover and voice their outrage at this incident, or near incident, I do not believe they know what to call it yet...(yes, that was /sarc also)...
Namely Rand Paul...(Can’t wait for the usual backlash from those FReepers who live and breath the Paul-Bot mantra)...
I’m not sure that ANYTHING will be learned about this till herr Goober-Miester and his ilk are shown the door after this administration screws the pooch as much as it can in the next year or so...
Nothing official, nothing resolved...Yawn...
Meanwhile (back at the Ponderosa) Hoss, and his buddies are still camped out waiting for the BLM or whatever forces (armed) will come back and finish the job, when things, and the attention span of Joe Q. Citizen is distracted to other things...That is as long as the food and water, and resolve still remain...
I give it a few more weeks, tops...Then the coast will be clear for more government shenanigans...
It may be safer then to conduct operations then...And the government will be prepared to lock the entire area down from ANYONE coming in to reinforce the family out there...
Ruby Ridge ALL OVER AGAIN...The potential is there for that to be the “soup de jour” when the time is right...
I wonder if anyone will figure that one out in time...
Maybe the next Texas Cowboy Memorial Shoot should move out to Clark County Nevada??? I’m just shooting from the hip there, it kinda just came to me...;-)
Interesting the trolls that are hitting all the ‘cooments’ sections, everywhere from the Las Vegas newspaper to little newspapers in Lima Ohio.
Makes me wonder where they are situated, what talking points are written on a piece of paper that lays in front of them, where their computers are. These are clearly your $15-an-hour hired trolls.
would be very interesting to have a conservative activist get hired as a leftie troll and report on where they are, who hires them, what kind of people do this, etc. An inside look.
their talking points are mainly
-—greedy rancher wants to use public land for private profit’
-— Bundy wants a free ride on land that belongs to ‘we the people’
-—wish I could get free land,
their talking-points team leader has been leaning heavily on ‘greed’ and ‘free’ and ‘freeloader’. Also a lot of them start out with ‘Wow!’ As in ‘Wow! Wish I could get free grazing for my cows!’
and “Wow! wish I could use public land for FREE!’
They must have a list hung on the wall of every venue that allows comments in the US.
But I think, really, the effect is just to shut down the comments sections because after a blast of commenters (trolls) all saying the same thing, people just give up and go elsewhere.
I would love to see a photo of these trolls all leaning over their keyboards.
It's just as well they stay indefinitely if the Bundy's will have them.
Once they leave and their numbers are small, the Feds will arrest and charge them with some crime against the government. Either on their drive home or shortly after they arrive.
They should go out there and kill every one of those tortoises and make a pyramid pile of them with a sign reading “Killed to Prevent Further BLM Crimes in their Name” or some such.
Any entrepreneurial opportunities here?
Food, water, electricity, sanitation & other infrastructure that would allow the militia people to stay indefinitely?
Or volunteers providing of needed services? Anything that will render the Feds’ waiting game moot. The longer the militias stay on the Bundy ranch, the more the govags end up looking like real idiots.
...where they have been purportedly defending the property since a tense showdown ended with the federal government last week.
Not "purportedly" you dumba** (ABC)... They very definitely were, and are, defending that ranch. I guarantee you, as in bet anything you care to name that had there not been "too many witnesses" and too many firearms aimed at the BLM thugs things would have turned out very, very differently. Bundy would probably be dead, as would several others, the rest in jail and all his lands confiscated.
Also, the showdown hasn't ended, just moved to a different phase. For now.
