Governor Cuomo has signed off on the National Popular Vote Compact, giving New York's 29 electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote.
Count New York in.
The Empire State has joined the National Popular Vote compact with legislation signed Tuesday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
States that have signed on to the interstate agreement will award electoral votes for president to the candidate who receives the majority of the national popular vote.
"With the passage of this legislation, New York is taking a bold step to fundamentally increase the strength and fairness of our nation's presidential elections," said Cuomo. "By aligning the Electoral College with the voice of the nation's voters, we are ensuring the equality of the votes and encouraging candidates to appeal to voters in all states, instead of disproportionately focusing on early contests and swing states."
Under the winner-take-all system, candidates for president have taken to ignoring states that are reliably Republican or Democratic, like New York, while focusing their attention and resources on a smaller group of battleground or swing states.
While New York has more than 13 million voters, ranking fourth in the nation, it is last when it comes to presidential spending.
New York joins the District of Columbia and nine states in signing on to the compact -- including California, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington.
The legislation utilizes New York state's right under the U.S. Constitution to award its 29 electoral votes in any manner it deems appropriate, in this case to the winner of the national popular vote.

If this becomes reality, the answer is divorce.
There is no reason for a state to remain in America without proper representation.
Yes, of course.
And, once again, our Founding Fathers prove how intelligent and wise they were.
They knew that city populations tend to attract the newly arrived and those who seek collectivist “protection” (liberals by the modern definition) and that those in the rural areas tend to be far more independent and self-reliant (conservative by the modern definition).
He also knew that the population densities in cities could easily outnumber the population of the rural areas.
They didn’t want a single big city in a state to dictate to the entire state.
So they installed two key rules: proportional representation and the electoral college.
The electoral college was designed to protect the minority from a purely pluralistic majority.
Of course, the left hates the idea of protecting conservatives, thus they are trying desperately to strike down the electoral college so that the country is essentially run by the major cities.
This will blow up in their faces like a balloon full of shaving cream.........................
CT (7 EV) and MN (10) are likely the next to join, giving them a total of 182 (of 270)...
PA (20), AZ (11), and MI (16) would hurt (and hit 229 total)...
but OK (7) and NE (5) would finish off the Electoral College for good, even with just 12 EV's and a total of 241 of 270, because once right-leaning states join, it's over.
(And FL conveniently gives them their last 29 to hit 270 exactly, assuming every state listed above joins the Compact)

Well, it practically means the end of Republican presidents. (I almost wrote conservative presidents.) It won’t even take very many states.
Why not just allow the vote in FL Ca and Ny! Those are the three States that would elect a popular vote candidate anyway.
It’s already time to start worrying.
The blue states enacting this into law will make the red states far more vulnerable far more quickly.
You see, once these laws are passed, the leftists don’t need to worry about those states in the national elections any longer. They will be wrapped up and however the major cities go, that’s how the state goes. And that is hardcore leftist.
The leftists will then have that much more time and MONEY to concentrate on the purple and red states.
As David Horowitz says, the left is engaged in the art of political war. The rest of the country is watching TV and figuring out how to be kinder, gentler, more social.
Liberals that are for this that I have talked to think our country is a democracy and don’t understand a republic.
If we went to Nat’l popular vote, candidates wouldn’t have to bother making promises to voters in States that have a majority opposition, just hit the cities where most voters are friendly.

Actually, I believe that the numerous independent recounts in FLA showed that Bush would have won the NPV.

This is how red states should respond.
They will be counting votes by county with each county receiving one point. The candidate that wins the most counties wins the electoral vote of that state.
It keeps the constitution in place and also removes voter fraud and disenfranchisement, since a county only gets one point, the popular vote in that county can be 150% and no one is disenfranchised.
Call it a fire wall to prevent voter fraud disenfranchising an entire state. The rats cannot argue it because it takes away their talking points.
I wonder if any of these laws have any ‘escape clause’ that allows the governor to exit out of the compact if it looks like the other party will win the PV.................
This basic problem exists in the current system. Ohio (& Florida) elect our presidents. Candidates ignore Texas, California & New York (except for fundraising) because their electoral votes are a foregone conclusion.

Funny, I had the same thought. They certainly wouldn’t want to add their votes to the other party and give them a win if they don’t have to. But it occurs to me if they do (a good possibility) then that is the legal attack vector.

Of course. Deep blue state never had to do vote cheating like liberal parts of swing states now do. With this scheme, the deeply embedded liberal power structure will mine every cemetery and mortuary for votes. Bad idea.
