The Washington Post Quietly Corrects Justice John Paul Stevens’s Grievous Error about Gun Laws

Last week, former Justice John Paul Stevens penned an op-ed for the Washington Post on “The Five Words that Can Fix the Second Amendment.” The piece is actually an excerpt from his new book Six Amendments: How and Why We Should Change the Constitution. In the book, Stevens suggests some changes that would ratify his view of cases in which he stridently dissented, such as Citizens United and Heller.

Stevens’s dissent in Heller, the case in which a 5-4 Court held that the Second Amendment conveys an individual right to own guns even for those not part of a militia, is largely re-hashed in his Washington Post op-ed. In addition, there is, or was, a glaring error that the Post has since corrected sub rosa, that is, without acknowledging at the bottom that the piece was edited. As Josh Blackman originally reported, and thankfully preserved by excerpting, the first version contained this error:

Following the massacre of grammar-school children in Newtown, Conn., in December 2012, high-powered automatic weapons have been used to kill innocent victims in more senseless public incidents.

Hey J.P., ya wanna repeal the 2nd Amendment?

Then start burning the ol’ shoe leather & lobby both houses of Congress to pass a repeal measure. By two thirds.

Then hit the bricks to all fifty (fifty seven?) states and round up thirty eight of them to ratify the bill.

Otherwise, ain’t gonna happen nohow.

Amazing. Stevens still standing, much less writing? He must have a ghost writer. He was certifiably senile already ten years ago.

Let’s hope he isn’t a ghost himself until Zero’s gone.

I would not call them good at it, but they are consistent --- when their lips move, they are probably lying.

The only reason you think they are good at it is that the '4th Estate', i.e. The Media, are packed with fellow leftists who fail to call them on their lies.

BTW. Just a quirk with me. I don't think of those people as being 'Liberals'. These are not 'liberals' we are dealing with. They are hard core leftists leading a pack of political opportunists only interestd in preserving their own careers.

IMHO, there ain't many liberals left, and none of them in positions of power. Joe Liberman is probably the last 'Liberal' left in the Democrat party. Most on that side of the isle just go along to keep their careers going. The leadership (not necessarly elected officials) are hard core leftists who do not have good intentions.

I always disagreed with liberals on policy, but I respected their opinions and considered them to be honorable people. Their intentions were good, if flawed. Today, Liberals have no say in the debate. The leftists control the agenda.

We are not dealing with people of honor today. They are cut throats, and we damn well better understand that fact.

Bottom line: I don't call them Liberals. I call them radical Leftists.

Stevens actually retired. Obama replaced him with either the Wise Latina or Butch Kagan.

“High-powered automatic weapons?” Are they freakin’ kidding me?

Jeff Bozo wasted his money buying this left-wing, lying rag. No wonder it’s called The Washington Compost.
