NYPD cop barred from leaving India after accidentally bringing three bullets into country: officials

An NYPD cop is stuck in India after being arrested for accidentally bringing three bullets into the country, officials said Friday.

Officer Manny Encarnacion was taken into custody on March 10 after security at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport found the bullets in his checked baggage, police sources said.

“I’m troubled by it,” Mayor de Blasio said Friday of the arrest. “We want to make sure we're providing support for him — and make sure he’s not being treated unfairly.”

In December, the controversial arrest and strip search of New Delhi’s then-deputy consul-general Devyani Khobragade in Manhattan for allegedly paying her nanny as little as $3 an hour caused an international firestorm.

The incident fueled tensions during Encarnacion’s arrest.

“The police official who questioned [Encarnacion] said, ‘Oh New York City police. You’re the guys who like to strip-search our diplomats,’” said a source familiar with the incident.

Rep. Peter King accused India of seeking payback by arresting the cop.

I wonder if they will try the "race card" with India.

How lenient are the police when someone accidently brings a concealed weapon into NYC?

KARMA! We're supposed to feel sorry for this JBT when he doubtless has zero tolerance form this same sort of action from the peasants?

Exactly. I would say India is a hell of a lot more lenient than the fascist constitution shredding city of New york. In NYC I believe it’s a mandatory 5 years in jail now. Only politicians and big Dem donors are allowed protection by guns.

He (DiBlasio) ought to be troubled by his law-breaking, terrorist police. I hope he sends gratitude to the authorities in India.

This unionized thug cop will get more support form the state department than any American citizen in Benghazi did.

That would be ZERO TOLERANCE

Seriously does anyone feel anything but satisfaction that a NY cop got caught in the same sort of thing that is unconstitutionally enforced in NYC by NY cops?

Hey, Manny Encarnacion broke the law. There is no excuse. I sure as hell doubt that his Majasty de Blasio would be “providing support” for one of us if we got stopped in NYC for violation of one of his rules, regulations or laws. I also know damned well Manny Encarnacion would not be sympathetic, he would be clamping the chains on. The chickens roosting at home tonight.

This guy is too stupid to be trusted with a weapon. If he did not know he had the three rounds, how can we trust him to be smart enough to know when to use those rounds and when not to use them?

No one seems to be concerned that the TSA let three bullets through screening.

This guy was asking for trouble, but he shouldn't be the only one in trouble.

“I’m troubled by it,” Mayor de Blasio said Friday

So how're you liking those "No Tolerance" laws now, Mister Mayor?

Oh man! I don't believe in Karma...but if I did, this would be the perfect instance of Karma.

NYPD jackin people up for ammo and firearms all these years, now one of their own gets jacked for the same thing they'd been jackin. How sweet.

How is that ‘zero tolerance’ working out for you, officer?

Really? Ritual slaughter? That’s your thing?

I get and agree that what goes around, comes around and that he shouldn’t expect any more leniency than a visitor to NYC would get under the same circumstances. But statements like that make us all sound nuts.

As others have already said: no sympathy from me. I have no doubt whatsoever that this guy, like the vast majority of New York City police officers, would show no mercy to anyone who accidentally broke any of that city’s draconian gun laws.
