You go to most of those cities and they are built on top of older cities built on top of even older cities. I would have to guess the the vast majority all the cities that have ever existed there are, have been or eventually will be buried. So whats new?

If'n it wasn't fer all them dust storms and putting' cities up higher 'n higher, the earth would still be only 23,000 miles in diameter.

Just for laughs I went and looked this up.
According to Wiki,
“By one estimate, as much 40,000 tons of cosmic dust reaches the Earth’s surface every year.”

You think the middle east gets it all?
