After Boehner, Cantor and McCarthy Are Not Options
RedState ^ | April 9th, 2014 | Erick Erickson

With the primaries going as they are coupled with existing pledges from Republicans in the House of Representatives, it is becoming more and more certain that John Boehner will not remain as Speaker of the House after this year.

A number of candidates ahead in primaries, including John Ratcliffe in Texas and others, have pledged to oppose Boehner as Speaker come 2015. Likewise, by my count, there are enough existing members of the House to block him. The fall back for many is Eric Cantor, the House Majority Leader.

The candidates and incumbents who will not support Boehner should not support Cantor either. In fact, it is worth noting that Cantor has been one of the House leadership members intending to fly to Amelia Island this weekend. The purpose of the trip is to meet with the liberal Mainstreet Partnership. That organization is using union and George Soros related dollars to beat conservatives with liberal Republicans.

Me too as well as Gohmert and Tom Price but we will get Cantor. That little weasel has been grooming himself for the Speakership for years now.

My theory is that for every 2-3 good guys/gals we elect 10 RINO’s get elected. Its geometrically impossible to overcome those odds. I see almost no hope that the GOP even with control of the Senate will make any meaningful strides in restoring the Constitutional Republic.

No matter what your opinion is about the stand off at the Nevada ranch its a micro-cosym of whats wrong in this country. The Governor and the sheriff are doing nothing. Exerting no control or influence over the situation so the people are left to attempt to solve the problem. This can be expanded to show what is happening nationally. That is why I believe we are long past the ballot box.

Anyone who is not for cutting the $4 trillion federal government is part of the problem.

Vote for those who want to cut government by 80% (=$800 billion - still too big, but it's a start).

If anyone tells you, you don't have an alternative to big government programs, give them a copy of Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations and tell them to learn about the FREE MARKET ECONOMY, the clear alternative to Socialism.

Definitely not Cantor. I don’t know what has happened to him. He used to be fairly solid but seemingly flails in the wind more and more the longer he is in Congress.Power corrupts and he likes power and powerful friends. Also Cantor is married to a liberal which truthfully I believe explains more about many of these guys than all the other political analysis combined.

Are you sure Gowdy is for amnesty? At the very least, the Speaker should be against amnesty.

Trey's position on Homeland Security. Don't see anyting about amnesty there.

Our government’s primary function is to protect our citizens and defend our freedoms. The most important aspect of that duty is to ensure our brave men and women in uniform have all the resources they need to perform their courageous and inspirational task. As recent terrorist attacks remind us, America has many enemies who wish to undermine the enduring ideals our nation represents. It is imperative we remain diligent in our fight, and always remember the sacrifice of our soldiers stationed around the world.

I encounter another aspect of national security from my position on the House Judiciary Committee: improving our immigration system. Our current situation is a risk to national security because we have failed to track and control those coming to our country. For example, of those immigrants who are unlawfully present in the US, 30- 40 percent entered through legal means but then overstayed their visas. We can strengthen our border security and better equip our law enforcement to detain and remove individuals who pose a threat to our national security.

But as we seek to protect our national security, we balance individual privacy rights with public safety. Recent revelations regarding the abuses of government under the guise of national security illustrates the need for robust oversight and transparency within our national security apparatus. We must work for our national security without subjecting ourselves to further government intrusion.

Cantor and McCarty are good options to be cast aside, same a Boehner will be. We need someone like Gowdy in that spot and we would see some REAL change.

NO to Boehner, Cantor and McCarthy ....

By the way, did Cantor ever respond to Brent Bozell's open letter about this weekend's attack on the Tea Party event at the Ritz Carlton in Amelia Island?

Cantor, Ryan and McCarthy are all non-starters for me. They’ve all failed as leadership and shown themselves to be enemies of conservatives. New blood is needed.

Ratcliffe is a good candidate.

Some people are worried because he worked for Bush that he must be pro-amnesty.

But Kobach worked under John Ashcroft as well and Kobach is the best on immigration. He started there in the Bush admin pushing local enforcement initiatives.

Some people like the work John Yoo did under Bush. Doesn’t make him a RINO.
