Scheme to neutralize 36 states' votes advances

Lawmakers line up behind plan that dumps Electoral College without constitutional amendment

The National Popular Vote effort, which could see the 14 states with the largest populations decide the presidency, is more than halfway to its goal of legally bypassing the Electoral College established in the Constitution.

Last week, the Maine state Senate voted in support of the plan one week after both houses of the New York legislature overwhelmingly supported it.

Now the governors of both states will need to decide whether to formally back the National Popular Vote, or NPV.

The plan is more than halfway to its goal of electing future presidents via the popular vote, after Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee, an independent, signed on last July.

The NPV campaign seeks to obtain the consent of the majority of the 538 votes in the Electoral College to award its electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote.

Now 10 jurisdictions possessing 136 electoral votes are part of the plan, just over half of the 270 electoral votes needed to bring the National Popular Vote interstate compact into effect.

The states will not be required to award their electoral votes to the national popular vote winner until the NPV has signed up enough states to garner 270 electoral votes.

The NVP effort is fully partnered with a George Soros-funded election group, as WND was first to report.

“Former” Michigan GOP chairman and RNC committeeman Saul Anuzis is an NPV pimp.

That’s OK. Before long, we won’t have elections at all, maybe just a rigged public-opinion poll or 2 to provide cover for the elites when they transfer power to their friends.

Texas will refuse to accept that insanity.

On what constitutional grounds are they doing this?

while there have only been 2 elections thus far in history when the electoral vote winner did not win the popular vote, this NPV movement is very disturbing. It highlights the lack of reverence and appreciation for our Constitution.

With the addition of Rhode Island to the NPV effort, the pact now has nine states plus the District of Columbia for a total of 136 of the 270 electoral votes needed. The other states signed up are Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, Vermont and California.

...and so which way did these states vote in the last four (4) Presidential elections?

They will not get to 270. Red state legislatures are not completely stupid or completely crazy.

ummm.. no

to have this, they would need to completely rewrite the basis for the Constitution

not to mention this catchy little phrase: no taxation without representation

From the perspective of the ComDems, Texas may be crazy.

But that crazy would include fighting mad crazy. There aren’t enough leftist alive to force that crap on Texas. War first.

This Leftist wet dream is not going to happen.

Not sure what will end up being the final straw...but there will be one...

Best guess is that society melts down in a non-political fashion before we get a political last straw..

And we will not know it when it starts...2008 was a warning..

... Lawmakers line up behind plan that dumps Electoral College without constitutional amendment

This plan is likely intended to compliment the ill-conceived 17th Amendment by likewise subjecting the Oval Office to mob rule by constitutionally ignorant voters who have never been taught the federal government's constitutionally limited powers.

In other words, corrupt, Constitution-ignoring lawmakers want to intensify the tsunami of constitutionally indefensible federal taxes going to DC, taxes which Congress cannot justify under its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers.

On the other hand, with all due respect to the family and supporters of the late President Reagan, even he signed bills into law which Congress had no power to make under its Section 8-limited powers.

Seems to me a continuation of liberals/statists/leftists/communists/progressives goal of ripping the Constitution to shreds, as they did with abolishing the 17th (with progressive rinos to help).

I only hope that if it gets more traction, that it bites them... when CA/NY/MA/etc are forced to give all their electoral votes to the Conservative Republican candidate for president, causing an electoral landslide for the Republican ticket.
