Flight 370 effort could soon shift from search to recovery

The team of international investigators hunting for Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 has "unquestionably" located the missing jetliner and could soon have high resolution images of the wreck site, an expert in deep sea recoveries of ships and planes told FoxNews.com.

There is virtually no chance that the pings picked up by ships towing sophisticated listening devices could be anything other than signals emitted by the plane's flight data recorder, or "black box," David Mearns, of Blue Water Recoveries, a United Kingdom-based company that holds the Guinness World Record for the deepest ocean recovery and has assisted searches for sunken planes.

"This cannot be coming from anything else," Mearns said. "This is the best equipment there is, and the signal is unmistakable.”

What the heck is CNN going to report other than 370 ? They’ve gone completely off the deep end.

I thought the reported the other day that they couldn’t find the pings again.

“Flight 370 effort could soon shift from search to recovery”

Didn’t they leave out the little bitty part about actually FINDING it?

I know everyone wants to find this thing...but the costs of retrieving it are going to be astronomical.

I probably sound like a lib wishing the money could be spent more usefully, somewhere else, but I do.

RE: Flight 370 effort could soon shift from search to recovery

You cannot recover something you have not found. Have they found it?

If not, the title of the thread is BS.

They heard them, then there was a day or two interval until they were able to find them again.

Don't know about fake, but it IS BS:

Mearns, who is not involved in the effort but knows people who are and has been through the process himself, said he believes Angus Houston, the retired Australian air chief marshal heading the Joint Agency Coordination Center, is deliberately awaiting incontrovertible visual evidence out of respect for the passengers' families.
Fox hype. All based on one man's opinion.

If they locate a solid signal, I'd be pissed off big-time if I were a surviving family member that they held onto that until they got 'visual'. The guy's just using Fox as well for free publicity, albeit pissing off the entirety of the families doing so.

They're supposedly using the Towed ROV Artemis for this part of the search. Once they've completed a pattern they should be able to pinpoint the source.

If I were a family member, that would be good enough for me (and the least I'd want to know).

I think this will be a lot like finding Scorpion in the 60's. Too deep for large segment recovery and only photos will be taken as validation.

To be honest, recovery of the FDR and Cockpit Voice Recorder will likely reveal very little as to cause, only the final outcome.

Then the conspiracy nuts will have to invent whole new scenarios. One sure to pop us is that the Chinese placed everything there so they could "discover" it.

Congratulations...you've summed up 99.9% of the reportage on Flight 370.
