I answered it, but you must not like the answer. Unless the Reps control the WH, it won't get built no matter what law is passed. If the Reps accept the Dems' hostage demand, i.e., security for amnesty, then it won't be built and the Dems will still get their amnesty.

Not at all. But I'm not starry eyed enough to believe that many, perhaps upwards to 7-8 million wont benefit from some kind of legalization after the border is secure. But whatever the number is, it will pale in cost and comparison to what successive amnesties will tally up to. My hunch is there will be a whole lot of traffic headed south once a wall started going up. Just like they left AZ.

Lots of false assumptions. We really don't know how many illegal aliens are here. In 1986, the "one-time" amnesty was estimated by the government to affect 1 million. The true number turned out to be 2.7 million who applied. What happens if instead of the government estimated 11.5 million lawbreakers, there are really 20 to 30 million of them? And don't forget that those given amnesty will be allowed to sponsor millions more to join them including their wives and children. The Gang of 8 bill in the Senate projects over 30 million legal permanent immigrants over the next decade almost three times more than the highest decade of immigration in American history, which just happened to be the decade ending in 2010 when 13.9 million legal immigrants entered. And the Gang of 8 bill also doubles the annual guest worker programs from 650,000 to 1.4 million a year.

Where did you get the 7-8 million that would be affected?

The 1986 amnesty process was rife with fraud with phony document mills being set up blocks away from the processing centers. There was also a surge of illegal immigration in anticipation of the amnesty even though you were supposed to be here for at least 5 years to apply. Once any amnesty bill is passed, you can bet there will be a rush of people to get here. And exactly how will USICS handle the flood of applications when it can't even manage the current load. There is also widespread corruption in USICS.

Before Considering Another Amnesty, Look at IRCA’s Lessons

You assume there will be no future amnesties. Wrong. It was the same promise that was made after the 1986 amnesty. Never again, the proponents said. Now we have 12 to 30 million illegal aliens and the promise is made once again. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. In fact, there have been 8 mini-amnesties since 1986 with the latest being Obama's backdoor amnesty of the Dreamers (DACA,) which could result in 1.8 million receiving legalization. Up to now, 500,000 have received legalization including work permits and SSNs. You can apply up to the age of 30. Less than 2% who applied have been rejected.

Why not just push for an enforcement only approach? If the Reps ever get control over the WH, they could implement and enforce existing laws to achieve that objective. Obama is using Executive Orders to bypass Congress. Shouldn't the Stupid Party do the same thing if it gets back in the WH so we can save this country? Bush 43 was terrible on enforcement, worse than Clinton. Obama has virtually stopped enforcing internally our immigration laws. He is cooking the books on deportation numbers.

Love to see what kind of BS numbers they were fed to come up with that fraction.

It is an uninformed guess that seriously underestimates the real numbers. The government says there are 11.5 million and they have been saying that for years. The Administration has a vested interest in understating the real numbers. A 2005 Bear Stearns study estimated 20 million.

I gave you the impact of another amnesty. Over $6 trillion in costs, tens of millions more legal immigrants, and a permanent Dem majority. Why on earth would you support the destruction of the country with the stroke of a pen just to get an ineffective fence that will not stop illegal immigration without other enforcement measures. You are caving in to the Dems. Do you really think they will agree to delaying legalization until the fence is built? And what do you do in the meantime, stop all deportations and enforcement? You in effect have de facto amnesty.

You would be a poor negotiator who assumes the other side will make no concessions while you must.

Any legislation that allows the lawbreakers to stay and work here is amnesty. If you agree to allowing the lawbreakers to stay and work here even as the fence is being built, it is amnesty. You have given the Dems the prize they want right from the very beginning. This is how the Stupid Party thinks, which is why they always get outsmarted by the Evil Party.

Because there are sanctuaries that refuse to play ball. Because we get lazy/complacent/distracted and priorities shift. And because many of us have been screaming for enforcement for decades. It's time to try something different.

It is time to try enforcement first without any amnesty. These "sanctuaries" are violating federal law. A different person in the WH could go after those sanctuary states and cities like the current one does in suing states trying to enforce federal immigration laws. You want to do the expedient thing and give the Dems what they want, which will make a wall meaningless.

The reality is that LEGAL IMMIGRATION must be reduced significantly or the country is lost anyway. Amnesty just hastens the process. The status quo is a loser. The country is being destroyed right in front of you by LEGAL IMMIGRATION.
